She should understand he's made a mistake and getting mad a few times won't hurt. She just listens and accepts everything without really questioning it. Hermione KNEW Ron was wrong, so she in no way waas going to support him. Bella, on the other hand, goes along with everything Edward says/does, which is wrong. PotterForever I have to disagree, personally I think Bella is a weak character, and her dependence on Edward, and the fact that she completely fell apart after he left shows that. She's obsessed with him, and went nuts when he left, and moped around for months, refusing to go on living, she had no other goals or ambitions at all. Their relationship came across as very unhealthy because of that. Not to mention she loved Edward becasue of his physical beauty, whereas Hermione loves Ron for Ron, their relationship seemed less shallow, because it wasn't based soley on looks. Yes of course, Hermione was devastated that Ron left, but she showed character strength by not dwelling on it, and going crazy over it, because she and Harry had a more urgent problem to deal with: they were in the middle of a war, and Harry needed her. She wasn't going to chase after Ron, she needed to stay with Harry, and help him. That doesn’t mean she didn't care about Ron, she was really upset when he left. I haven't seen the movie yet (I'm going soon) so I can't comment on how the plotline was handled in the movie, but in the book she was a mess, she cried at night, and everything. Yes, she was devastated, but she wasn't going to become a vegetable for months over it, and do a bunch of crazy things because someone left her, she simply had more important things to deal with, she was able to “shut it out,” for the time being. She was strong, she didn't lose her will to live because of it. As for her attacking Ron when he returned, yes she called him an ass and beat the crap out of him, but it was because she was pissed at him for leaving in the first place, he deserved her fury, he was a dick, he shouldn't have abandoned them like that. Just because they didn't fall into each other's arms and start professing their undying love to each other doesn’t mean she doesn’t love him. And anyway, her reaction wouldn't have been as extreme if she didn't love him, she wouldn't have cared enough to get do emotional, and rage at him. Anyway, I respect you making an attempt at a valid argument, and please feel free to debate my points.

Ron had been impulsive and rash. He threw out some nasty accusations and then left Harry and Hermione on their own for (I think he was gone for a few months in the book)at least a few weeks. ThePrincesTale Hermione stayed with Harry for the greater good. She put others before her. Selfishness is putting your own love life in front of other people's lives. Hermione did a very selfless thing even though it cost her dearly, she spent whole nights crying when she thought Harry was asleep. Bella is weak. Becoming suicidal when your boyfriend leaves you is nothing to be admired. It DOES NOT make her a "better" girlfriend. It just shows that she is in an obsessive relationship and that she needs a boy to survive. Hermione is a strong, independent young woman that has a good sense of morality and is a role model. Bella isn't really a role model is she? Have you ever been told to go jump off a cliff when your boyfriend leaves you because it's the right thing to do, dearie? I don't think so. And Stephanie Meyer puts it in a good light. The love in Harry Potter will always be stronger and purer than the supposed "love" in Twilight.

i-am-mariella Some of my points will probably have already been addressed, but ohh well. First of all, we've known Hermione and Ron since they were awkward ten year olds, and seen this kind of cat-and-mouse relationship where they're best friends but often fight, bloom into something more. because they were shy, it took ages to address those feelings. Bella living for Edward isn't a good thing. She can love him, sure, but at the end of the day people are supposed to live thier own lives. Hermione would never dream of changing her own opinions to suit her boyfriend. She's a girlfriend, but a strong woman first. I'm not trying to change your opinion on twilight which you obviously like, and that's fine, but personally I find Bella's relationship with Edward a little unhealthy. Going crazy and jumping off cliffs? Thats not good, she'd known him all of about three months when that happened. Edward can do no wrong in Bella's eyes, and she'd never dream of overuling his opinions. Also, having opinions is what makes Hermione herself and such a loveable character. Being a "good girlfriend" doesn't mean you have to change yourself, but means knowing when to take your boyfriend down a peg or two. Hermione does this with Ron. She didn't want to let go of Ron, but she did, because Harry needed her more. Katy, I love Ron too, but I think he was selfish and immature leaving them like that. It's fine, people make mistakes and have flaws. Hermione loves him, but he wasn't showing his love much by leaving her and Harry. I mean, if Hermione followed him Harry would be lost. Both the boys often rely on Hermione. If Bella's friend needed her, and Edward didn't but she still followed him, well that's not something to be proud of.

ArcticWolf While I understand some of your reasons, you have to keep in mind that while Edward and Bella are fully in a relationship, Ron and Hermione are not dating yet. They have not reached that "loving" level that Edward and Bella have yet, because they're still wary of what to think of the other. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in on things to explain why Ron and Hermione aren't "there" yet. :)
