But then,the french duke Henry Plantagenet became english king. As a duke, he had to obey the french king, but by being english king, it would have been dishonouring to him to obey. And in 1337, the english king Edward III. claimed to become king of France- that was the trigger of the 100-years lasting war- which lasted 116 years until 1453.
