7 Reasons Why Nick Is Totally The Baby Judith Of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’
Look, as much as we love “Fear the Walking Dead” as its own separate entity, it was inevitable that we’d instantly start comparing its characters to the ones that we’ve known for years over on the OG “Walking Dead” — or at the very least, predicting which of them would go down similar paths. Like Madison (Kim Dickens) for instance, who is the show’s Rick Grimes but with some Maggie thrown in for good measure, or Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), who is just so nice and domesticated right now that she’ll inevitably go full-Carol by the end of season three. It is written.
But when it comes to the show’s very nuanced Nick (Frank Dillane) … well, we just can’t fully put our finger on him. Is he another Daryl, who began the zombie apocalypse as a relatively emotionally stunted human with a blue collar background, then grew into a full-blown hero? Or is he more like a Tyreese, who was literally too sensitive to survive in this type of endlessly violent universe?
Actually, scratch that. Nick is neither of those clowns — because he’s totally, 100 percent the next Baby Judith. Here’s why:
He’s dependent on others to take care of him.
Judith needs Rick to carry her around because she’s a baby who can’t walk; Nick needs Madison to cater to all of his needs 24/7 because of his devastating heroin addiction. Very different situations, sure, but they yield similar end results, as both render the lead character of the series completely responsible for a relatively helpless human being.
He wins “most likely to make a whole lot of noise.”
Heroin withdrawals are a messy business — we should all be thankful that we haven’t had to live through feeling like we’re going to drown for days at a time. So we are not in any way judging Nick for being a little bit on the noisy side, but when it comes to the Grimes Gang and the Clark-Manawa squad, Judith and Nick win “loudest member” by far.
Carl is an on-again, off-again psychopath; Alicia is the absolute last person to realize that zombies are happening. Those two things are not quite equal, but still — with Carl and Alicia around, both Judith (once she can speak) and Nick are going to have a whole lot of dramatic eye-rolling in their near future when it comes to the moods of their siblings.
Judith was the OG child of the zombie apocalypse, possibly born out of an affair, while Nick suffered the loss of his father at a young age and used drugs to rebel. Basically, they’re samesies.
You’re in good hands when your father is Rick Effing Grimes — and only time will tell, but we’re pretty dang sure that come season two, we’ll be saying the same exact thing about Madison Clark.
It’s been said that one’s emotional growth stalls at the age in which they start abusing drugs, which for Nick happened pretty early — so we can understand it when he’s horrible to his mother, or condescending to his sister, and so on and so forth. Basically, until he gets his head above water with his addiction, he’ll be just as big a baby as Judith, an actual baby.
He’s somehow most likely to survive this whole season.
Okay, okay — so we know what happened to Baby Judith in the “Walking Dead” comics, but that doesn’t mean we think they’ll actually let her die on TV. And for all of his faults, Nick is easily the most fascinating character to watch on “Fear the Walking Dead,” so we’re pretty sure that he’ll at least survive to see season two. Again,
