I don't think so. They appear to be automatically earned. If you didn't want them for some reason you could just choose not to use them. Then you'd only be able to vote for the appearances of small clubs and ones you have a medal in, and you'd be limited to only icons in terms of profile personalisation.
its not optional , i think you can use fanpop without any problem without gold. its just for little things like notifications bar color and personalisation things.Just dont pay attention to it and you will have no problems.
