I still don't understand this "Fanpop gold" thing.

All my gold comes from recent contributions, that limited-time offer of 200 gold a day for new uploads. How is gold normally earned? I've asked questions and created picks- er, polls, and gotten back answers, but I haven't earned any gold for any of them. And I don't seem to earn gold from answering other people's questions. How does it work, exactly???
