Fanpop Question

What is the difference between a forum and an article?

I know it seems like an obvious question but I want to post something but I don't know which one it belongs in.

forums tend to have alot more reader envolvment, everyone has there say, but soapbox (article) is someone giving their own in depth review of something.

hmm there is no right or wrong really. id say in general articles are longer than forum posts. also articles are for the in-depth look and forums usually just for shorter points made (or games etc).

one other difference obviously is that forums will not show in the updates, so they take more time to be seen but that shouldnt be the reason to put a five liner in an article.
if youre not sure where to post id say post it as a forum.

In general, an article is a place to have your say about something. A forum is a place to converse with others. Articles DO tend to inspire conversation, especially if the topic is a controversial one... but conversation isn't meant to be their sole purpose.

Another way to look at it... Forums are the notes you pass back and forth amongst friends in class. Articles are the essays you write for the teacher ;)

Articles are
- Of sufficient length (I'd say 300 words or more, but there's no real limit)
- ORIGINAL writing
- A public statement and/or strong opinion/rant
- (Preferably) lacking in text speech.

Forum Posts are
- Brief statements
- Not necessarily original (post chain letters, jokes you found ont he net that you think are funny, etc.)
- Discussion-inspiring.
- In your own, informal words (can include text speech).

Basically, germs and astroasis got it right. These are just the differences in my ideal world. I just want to emphasize that articles are meant for original work, so don't copy-paste chain letters or other people's writing into an article. Post a link to the original work or (in the case of an e-mail) add it to the forums.
