people get lots of props saying "hey happy i-brushed-my teeth-today-day OMG lol *_*" and they mean nothing. people use props as message boards "hey hunni how ru!?" and those mean nothing..and i saw you got prop spammed after this and well..those arent real props either.
neither are "thanx for the props/being my fan".
all of those mentioned should be handled by private messages or on chat.
the real purpose of props (and by that i mean the way there were intended when introduced) is that people have a chance to say "well done on those quiz questions you posted..it was fun answering them" or "great icons you posted i was looking for some of XYZ for ages". they are like a pat on the back from the community of fanpoppers. otherwise they wouldnt be props they would be random "restricted to 500 characters" messages.
You can do loads for props and people still might not give you them. The problem is that other people give you props and that is how you get them. People come and visit your home site and there is a little bar with Home, Videos, images, links, articles, forum,picks, quiz and answers then props.
someone (appart from yourself) can click on props and decide to prop either videos, links, answers picks and all sorts.
Try it on someone and you will see. It is really easy once you get the hang.

I only try to give props when the material is worth it. Like if a video a person made/found is really good or an article is well written. Also, I have mostly gotten props for my videos I made or comments I have made. If you answer things completely in a well though out way people will give you props as well.
Try to contribute good things and people will give you them! Or be the first to give props and people will give them back! Anyway I already gave you a lot of props:)
