What's with the new popular content feature in spots now?

It appears to be a compilation of all the "what's hot" content across a given club. While the "what's hot" algorithm is another that is kept secret by the Fanpop staff, I believe it is very similar to the algorithm used to award medals: that is, it's based on views and ratings. I don't know about medals, of course, but what I've observed with "what's hot" is that it seems connected with views in particular. So the popular content appears to be the top items that users are viewing at a particular time. It updates when you reload, based on how users look at other things.
