Fanpop Question

How was Fanpop in the beginning?

Since I joined Fanpop, quizzes and now answers (soapbox changed to articles) were added (a few more things too). So I, curious and obsessed about Fanpop as I am, wanted to know, how was Fanpop at first. What did it have?

The original site is VERY different from what you see now. We had links and forums and headlines (rss feeds).

When you added a link you could specify if it was a "video" or an "article" or an "image" (among other things). But you couldn't actually upload an image on the site or watch an embedded video on the site either.

Here's an archival image from Pkmntrainerj showing "old style fanpop"

As Dazl says, Soapbox (Articles) was the next feature added as well as a specific area devoted to videos. Images were added next, then picks. Then quiz and now Answers.

We also redesigned the site in the Spring of 2007. So the "old style" fanpop only lasted for about 6-8 months before we pulled the plug and rebooted with a look that is much more similar to what you are now used to (though we've tinkered with that look a lot too).

If you want a look at Fanpop way, way back when (i.e. August 2006) then look here.

Well, I remember when I started, it had forums, videos, links and news.

I think articles were introduced next, then images, then picks, then quiz, and now Answers!

One of the golden oldies will probably be in to correct me though. I can't remember if images or articles came first.

There's a lot of differences to describe, and a lot of change over the course of "the beginning" of the site. I wrote an article about the history of Fanpop over the first two years that I experienced it, from the closed beta onward. That might be of interest to you. The answer feature won't allow Fanpop URLs to be posted (they're too long), so you'll have to search for an article entitled "My First Two Years on Fanpop".
