I think 'fan of it' might be confusing to newer users who don't know that the 'fan' system replaced an actual rating system. I've encountered users who only fanned stuff that they wanted to save, because 'fan of it' and 'favorite' sound like they could be the same thing.

(Is this a good time to mention that I still miss my rating trophy? And that it encouraged users to rate stuff? And that it was beautiful and shiny and myyy preciousss? ;D)

Even if rating doesn't come back, you guys should definitely bring back the rating trophy and just rename it the 'fanning trophy' or whatever. Seeing how many things I had rated was so fun and it was like a game to increase the trophy number.

Regardless if it's the 'fan of it' button or if it's the five star system what I care about is the security of the system against cheating tbh.

Don't you think we should have a way of saying that we are NOT a fan of something again?

Keep up the great comments! What we end up going with is not entirely decided by percentages, but also the discussion in comments. I think there have been some good points made.

Well folks, we're going to bring back 5 star voting. Here's how it will work: when you vote something 5 stars, it will be the same as the current "fan of it" button, and will show up on your profile under the usual "Content I'm a Fan of". We're open to suggestions on if it should appear there only with 5 stars, or 4/5 stars.

Right now, the "fan of it" is too similar to the "save" button, and this way, content that is really bad can be voted down and can be buried from some views to spare other fans from wasting their time on it.

Thanks for voting. I think a lot of people put in great thoughts, but there were some really great points made in the comments by veterans who remember 5-stars.

Awesome!

Personally, I think 3, 4 and 5 should show up as content you're a fan of. Even if you're giving it a neutral rating, at least you've bothered to rate. If you really like it, there's still the 'favorite' option.

Cool! That's awesome!

Agree with Dasm about 3, 4 and 5 counting as being a fan of it. I would rate like how a used to rate, giving say, 3 stars to content I liked, but had not been uploaded with good information (credit, keywords etc). So at 3 stars, I'm still a "fan" of the content, even if it ain't perfect.
