Or the old uploader. But honestly I've gotten used to this way too. I simply think it's easier if we have the option to copy the title as well because across the board people (myself included) seem to just title things in the same way anyways, if that makes sense.

I've been having so many issues with the new uploader lately, I'm tempted to pick the old one. The new one will snag on one image and force me to either delete it or trash everything after, uploads out of order, slows to a crawl after about 15 images, eats images (they kind of flash through and disappear), says it's uploading when it's not really uploading, still does "photo" as a keyword on things that are not photos.

I tried uploading some stuff just now, and experienced all of these issues. (Except the slowness after 15, because every time I tried more than 10, it would eat 'em or do the non-upload thing.) It took 20 minutes and 8 or 9 do-overs to add 50 icons. The old uploader was faster and easier.

The best thing about the new one (when it cooperates) is being able to edit specific descriptions and keywords in the first go. Having a character minimum for the title doesn't really link. People who want to use accurate titles have always done so, and people who don't will find ways around it. And yes, a copy button for the title would be fantastic. The copy/pasting gets old pretty quick.

I agree, zanhar1, the other nice thing about a new title copy button is that you can copy part of the title to all of the images in your upload set since they might have the same general topic.

After that, you can then customize the rest of the title, as needed.

For example, if you uploaded a bunch of photos of the Fanpop team, you could copy the title "Fanpop Team Photo" to all the images in the set, and then add stuff to each image title as appropriate, such as " featuring Elizabeth and Michael at the BBQ"

The title for that one photo then becomes "Fanpop Team Photo featuring Elizabeth and Michael at the BBQ", and you can leave the other images in the set as the same "Fanpop Team Photo" or also customize them if you want.

Hey DarkSarcasm, that's a good point. The HTML5 uploader is more advanced and flexible, but I think it also eats up more memory and is more dependent on one's computer and browser, as well as being affected by the size of the images being uploaded.

I think giving people choice would be ideal. If you have a big batch and the HTML5 uploader isn't cutting it, or you're on grandma's computer and it's running slowly, why not have an option to run the Flash batch uploader?

We might make it limited to people who have earned at least one yellow medal or something like that just to make sure new fans learn about the importance of unique, descriptive titles before they unleash the OG batch uploader.

The other thing that would help is if people could submit screencaps of their upload woes, along with perhaps emailing us the actual problem images so that we can try duplicating the problem and fixing any issues we see.

We've tested the uploader extensively here, but our computers are admittedly pretty monstrous and it's also possible we aren't using the same test images as people having problems.

Ooh, being able to choose your uploader would be awesome. I'd love to have the old one for batches of icons, and the new one for detailed smaller batches of stuff like photos and wallpapers.

How would one go about sending you problem images? The contact page doesn't have an attach option or an email address. And how many would you need?

I have stopped uploading images since the switch because it is so dang tedious. It takes forever to name everything individually and once you get everything named, if it's accidentally 9 characters instead of 10, it's a pain. I would love to add some more icons and wallpapers, but until this little frustrating pain is improved, I'm not sure I'll be doing much but polls and quizzes.

@fanpop the other nice thing about a new title copy button is that you can copy part of the title to all of the images in your upload set since they might have the same general topic.

Now that sounds like a great way to do it. It both eliminates hassle and gives users the opportunity to expand on the title and eliminate some of the uniformity. I do like this idea.

@cliff I definitely have the grandma computer lol. As mine will also occasionally drop an image or say that it uploaded an image but in reality it did not. The whole choices thing sounds like a great idea so people with older or slower computers could get something that their computer can handle and then the lucky ones with the new computers can have another option as well. We might make it limited to people who have earned at least one yellow medal or something like that just to make sure new fans learn about the importance of unique, descriptive titles before they unleash the OG batch uploader. This also sounds like a good idea, it would (ideally) deter spam. But at the same time once that trust is built the user will be presented with new opportunities as an award (so to speak) of abiding by fanpop's terms and rules.

Ok, it is done! There is now a copy button for titles, and the minimum length for titles has been minimized (now it's just 3 characters, which is ridiculously short, but so be it).

We'd like to bring back the Flash uploader for medalled fans, but it will take some time as there are many things being developed at the moment.

We also did some research and there is a performance optimization that we're working on to greatly improve the processing of uploads. It's no small task, but it should result in faster uploads and fewer delays when a lot of people are uploading at one time. Thanks for voting, everyone, and please keep an eye on this club for future improvements!

Well, part 2 is done, the Flash image uploader is back! With great power comes great responsibility :D If you are willing to put in the effort for unique titles, the newer default HTML5 uploader has been upgraded as well, but the Flash uploader works well on older computers. Thanks for your votes, everyone!
