Fanpop Features Question

What will happen to all the content we are currently a fan of when 5-star rating comes back into play?

I was curious as to how this would work. Will everything we are a fan of automatically be rated a specific amount of stars (i.e. 3, 4, or 5 stars), will all content be un-rated, or maybe something different?

Hi Glelsey, that is an excellent question. You can check out the discussion here:

We're currently leaning towards counting stuff you are a fan of as the same as a five-star vote. It's not perfect, but you can of course change your votes if you don't think the item qualifies as a 5 star.

One of the reasons 5-stars went away in the first place was that 99% of votes were either 1-star or 5-stars. Even so, many of us here at Fanpop, along with many veteran fans, didn't agree with that decision, so it's coming back. Since nearly all votes were 1-star or 5-star, giving a "Fan of it" item 5-stars seems the closest to what happened in the past when 5-star voting existed.

In the future, stuff that you vote 3, 4, or 5 stars will also show up in the list of items you are a fan of. "Save" will also remain so that you can save stuff without starring it.

We'll also tweak the interface more so that it's clear that voting something a 5 star item is absolutely amazing (like an A+), a 4-star is something like an A-, a 3-star is a B-, a 2-star is like a C- and a 1 star is junk.
