This is a short story about Duncan and Courtney.
* At the country club, in the restaurant by the docks*
She is setting by the docks at a little table sipping on a water with lemon, just starring out at the waves. She is so consumed by her thoughts she doesn’t even notice him until he is right in front of her. “Hey” he says.
She raises her sunglasses and lets them rest on her head. “Hi!” she says excitedly “I was afraid you wouldn’t show.”
“Well, I thought it over and decided that YOU are what I want……and I do want to get to know you better.”
“Great” she says.
“So,” he is starring down at the table: nervously “Um…. I guess I’ll call you sometime.” he looks up at her face she is glowing in the mid-day sun.
“Yeah” she says as she bights her lip and smiles “I’d like that”
“GREAT, so…. I’ll call you” he gets up to go.
“Duncan WAIT!” she calls after him. He turns back around to face her, “You don’t have my number and I don’t have yours”
“Right,” he says, walking back quickly he pulls out a sharpie and holds out his hand, “May I?”
She gives him her hand, and she fells so small and fragile in his own. As gently as he can he writes down ‘Duncan Meyers 545-8585’ she slowly pulls her hand away from his and takes the sharpie, then she writes ‘Courtney Gomez 445-8584’.
“So, I’ll call you sometime soon” he says as he walks away.
She sets back down and pulls out her cell phone. “I doubt he will call you yet” says Bridgette as she walks up to Courtney’s table.
“I know you are probably right, but-” her phone rings. She picks it up quickly and looks at the number calling her, then down at her hand. It was a match. She answers the phone happily.
Before she can say anything “I know I just saw you, but I couldn’t help calling you.” she gasp with delight, softly. “I hope you don’t mind.” he says softly
“No! I don’t mind at all.” she says quickly. Bridgette smiles and walks back to the bar to talk to her boyfriend, Geoff.
“Good. And I hope you don’t mind when I say that I want to see you again, right now maybe….”
“Sounds good” she says quickly *a little shocked*
“Great” he says. She looks around because it sounds like his voice is coming from the phone and near by. Finally she spots him, about 10 feet away on the dock.
She smiles at him and he grins back. “I know it may be crazy that I called so early” he says as he hangs up the phone.
“It is” Courtney replies, giggling. He looks away embarrassed “but I’m glade you did.” she adds.
“So you want to have lunch?” he asks, pulling out a chair at her table.
“I’d love to.” she smiles as he sets down. They order lunch and spend hours talking to each other.
“Your beautiful, you know it?” Duncan says, starring into her deep chocolate eyes.
She laughs slightly and looks down and to the side. “You’re just saying that” she says shyly.
“Actually, I think your kind of breath taking” he says as a warm breeze blows her hair softly.
She looks back up at him, he is glowing in the setting sunlight “Your kind of breath taking to.”
They stair at each other in the setting sun, and then as if they were connected, they both leaned in and their lips meet. His hand tangles up into her hair as they both push against each other harder. It was magic, they had never felt this before now, and all they wanted to do was take that feeling and let it grow.
After a moment, they both pulled away. Both wide eyed and happily surprised “WOW” they both say quietly.
After another hour they pay and both head out to the parking lot. “So, I’ll call you sometime to see if you want to have dinner” Duncan says as they stop in front of Courtney’s gunmetal Porsche.
“Sounds great” she say softly as they back up to her car. He leans in pining her between her opened car door and her car. “See you” she says quietly into his ear, and kisses him good bye.
She gets in her car and pulls out her phone as he walks away. She starts up the car and turns on the radio. Her phone starts to ring, its Duncan. She picks up her phone.. “Hi.”
“Hey, you want to” *there is a knock on her window- she turns to see him standing there* “have dinner with me tonight.”
She smiles up with him adoringly “Sounds perfect”
