Hachikō
Hachikō
Hachikō (born November 10, 1923–March 8, 1935), known in Japanese as chūken Hachikō (忠犬ハチ公?, "faithful dog Hachikō" ('hachi' meaning 'eight', a number referring to the dog's birth order in the litter, and 'kō,' meaning prince or duke)), was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture, remembered for his loyalty to his owner, even many years after his owner's death.

In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo took in Hachikō as a pet. During his owner's life Hachikō greeted him at the end of the day...

As you already know, labs do not come in gray, but some poeple are scammed off into thinking they do, and that they have a rare color in special breeding. Wrong! What people make off as a blue lab is really just a regular ole lab mixed with a Weimeraner, giving the dog the look of a lab with the blue-gray color of the other breed. I saw someone who was marhcing around like they owned the place with the "blue lab." It was hilarious because they didn't know they had a mixed breed they paid 400 dollars for!
These are not labs. If you've heard of these or haven't, now you know.

Just one look at Bud Nelson is enough to tell you that he was the greatest dog who ever lived. He’s an old-timey dog wearing goggles in a scratchy black-and-white photo—if he hadn’t existed, he would have been dreamed up for a steampunk novel or Bioshock game. The human in the photo is Bud Nelson’s owner, a doctor called Horatio Nelson. Horatio was the first man to cross America by car in the year 1903, with his hilariously named co-driver Sewall K. Crocker and, of course, Bud. That made Bud the first dog to cross the United States by car.At the time, the automobile was still in its...

Bob was born in South Australia in 1882, and for some reason he loved trains. He spent the early years of his life as a stray, following railway workers to work, until he was rounded up by a dogcatcher. It looked as if he was destined for the pound, but luckily for Bob he was bought by a kindly station guard who’d taken a liking to him. It worked out well, as his new master allowed him to ride the train with him in the guard’s van every day. But, eventually, his master got a promotion and he and Bob parted ways. Then Bob started to jump trains alone.Bob traveled up and down Southern Australia,...

Bamse was a Saint Bernard that served aboard a Norwegian minesweeper during World War II. Despite his cute and cuddly appearance—Bamse means “cuddly bear” in Norwegian—he was extremely tough. Bamse was originally brought on board by the ship’s captain. When the captain tried to take Bamse with him when leaving for another posting, the crew, who had grown fond of the dog, threatened to leave the ship if he was taken away. They loved the dog so much that they would have mutinied rather than lose him. Bamse became legendary in Dundee and Montrose, where the ship was stationed during...

My dog, Fetch. (Isn't he cute?)
My dog, Fetch. (Isn't he cute?)
This is a poem I wrote for my dog when I was twelve years old. He's a dumb but adorable black lab named Fetch (even though he DOESN'T fetch) and he used to get into all sorts of trouble. It took my mom four years to finally get to like him. He's 8 years old now...and still as puppyish as ever!

You shed black hair
But I don't care.
You run away
But that's okay.
You're a dull-headed kind
But I don't mind -
'Cause you're my dog.

You beg at the table
Whenever you're able.
You track mud on the floor
Then you track in some more.
Oh the mischief you do!
But I still love you -
'Cause you're my dog.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The light breeze was making the leaves of the trees rustle lightly and the birds were chirping their afternoon songs. In a small yard there lay a dog on the soft, green grass. This dog was brown and white patched, and had light green eyes. She had no ears, as they were cut off when she was a puppy, but her ear canal remained, so she could still hear.

As the dog chewed on her bone, a teenage girl stepped into the backyard. The dog looked up and saw her 14 year old owner, Sally. Sally had tanned skin, with dark brown hair tied into a ponytail, a triangular...

In the 1860s, two stray dogs called Bummer and Lazarus were given the run of the city of San Francisco at a time when any other stray dog would have been rounded up and thrown in the pound. But Bummer and Lazarus were different—they were celebrities. The newspapers of the day reported their doggy exploits as if they were Posh and Becks or Brad and Angelina. If they got into a fight with rival dogs, the papers often printed an exaggerated account of it the next day, complete with eyewitness testimony and a dramatized cartoon of the event. Even Mark Twain took time out from working on Huckleberry...

Swansea Jack was a black retriever who lived with his owner William Thomas near the River Tawe in Swansea, Wales, during the 1930s. One day, Jack saw a small boy drowning in the river and ran in, pulling the boy to shore by the scruff of his neck. There was no one around to see it, and had circumstances been different, the boy would probably have spent the rest of his life telling the story to people who would never believe him. But Jack wasn’t done. Within a few weeks, Jack rescued another swimmer, this time with witnesses in attendance. And then another. And another. And so on. Over the...

My friend got a new puppy dog over the weekend. It was a little Malamute too! He was only young and excited. And within a week they had already got rid of him! Why? Just because he had bit her on the toe! It was only a little scratch and it didn't bleed. I thought they'd keep him cause they've already got like, 5 dogs! But no! They got rid of him. Seriously?! They've also got about 20 lizards and snakes. They've never put one of their snakes down just because it bit them! I just hope the little puppy is OK and they haven't put him to sleep...

George is in the Guinness Book of World Records for a reason. This Great Dane is the largest dog in the world.

He made it into the book because he is over 7 ft tall and weighs 245 pounds. He is the 'Greatest Dane' around!Just think about how much George eats per day! His owner, David Nasser, has to feed him about 110 lbs. of chow each month.

Can you imagine what a stir he causes when David takes George for a walk in the neighborhood? One thing is fore sure, none of the other dogs are sure to mess with him. When you are a dog as big as Giant George, other pups show some respect!

If you're considering adding a dog to your family, please consider adopting one from a shelter. I found the following story written by Janine Allen and thought it very important to share. The following was written by Janine Allen, not me.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference...
