Dogs Question

Should I get a dog?

Well my dog who we had for 12 years passed away in July 2009 and I miss her but I keep thinking about her even now so I think a new dog would take my mind off of her. My Birthday is this month and I haven't asked for anything yet so should I ask for a dog? I'll buy him/her at a rescue place so I'll be saving a life and I'll pay for it with some of the money that I got for Christmas. My mum doesn't really want another one but I know for a fact that when she buys it she won't regret it (she's always like this)

I could get a cat I suppose but that's not the best answer because I'm allergic to cats.. but I suppose you get used to it if one's living in the house and my allergy isnt THAT bad. I have tablets for my allergies anyway.

But I'd much rather have a dog. My mum said that money isn't an issue. I'd walk it everyday and I'll make sure to get one that's not too young so it doesn't chew up the house.

But I'm still not sure if its the best option. What would you do? Thanks in advance :)

I'm guessing your birthday already passed... so you probably already made a decision but I want to answer anyways lol. I think that getting a new pet is good for the healing process. I lost my 2 cats a few years back& was devestated. I couldn't even think about getting another one because I missed them so much. But I love animals& visited the SPCA realizing that a new kitten was just what I needed. Not to replace my old ones, but begin a new friendship. <3 I still miss my old cats Mittens& Malcolm {RIP} But I love my new babies, Bandit& Lil Bit, just as much. It depends on you, if your ready. You seem you are so you should go for it. :) Good luck& I'm so sorry for your loss. </3

Its one thing to rescue an animal and give it a home, but another thing to get an animal for personal selfish reasons. Do you want to get a pet for your personal satisfaction? Dogs are animals, not things and I hate that almost every single person in the world has either a cat or a dog for the sole reason of having one. Its sad :(
So my answer is: Your responsibility, your choice!

Calm down, I'm not calling you any names I never said you were being selfish, I asked you if that was the case. You don't have to explain yourself to me, at all! If you want to save a life, like I said before, than great! More power to you! But if you want one for the sake of having one that is selfish. You don't have to agree with me, you asked a question on a public site and I answered my honest opinion. Sorry if I upset you :(

If you are ready to handle one. Or if the dog is ready to handle you.
