No Divergent compared to the hunger games it is NOT the same at all!

We are all entitled to our own opinions so here is mine if you agree with me great. If you don't that's not my problem. Just if you comment and you don't agree don't be mean. I have seen really mean comments on here and it's a shame.

Alright here we go:

First of all the hunger games are fimed and they are aired on television. Divergent is not filmed or aired on television.

Next technically the hunger games only its suppose to have ONE winner... They have let Katniss slide so much it's a bit sad that she loses everyone she cases about at the end of the story. Divergent is not necessarily a one winner battle is ends with 10 people winning. The ones that are left over are just homeless not dead. Also in different it is up to the individual child as to I'd they leave there family unit or not. Tris, Caleb, Tobias they left but it was there choice.

Lastly in the hunger games children are absolutely murdered. In divergent you can commit suicide like Al did but in divergent you don't get killed the whole point is working very hard to become a member even if that is you are the 10th person on the list.

flabaloobalah Okay I see your point, but there are still a lot of similarities between the two. Both stories have a strong female protagonist. Both stories include a romantic part (Katniss with Peeta/Gale, Tris with Four). The setting in both series is a post-apocalyptic and dystopian society in America. The government in both series is very corrupt and basically society is broken. Katniss and Tris both start revolutions in their respective societies. Obviously a lot of people around them die at some point. The things you brought up are all good points, but it's not enough to say that Hunger Games and Divergent are nothing alike. Sorry if this comes off as rude but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

TW_FAN21 It's not rude. They do have a few similarities but not enough to say it's the same exact story. I read an article that mentioned that tris and katniss look exactly the same which no I disagree. However in the book something I noticed was that the way both authors wrote the story is similar in a few parts. Also something I want to mention is that divergent doesn't have a love triangle. Even when Al was alive... Tris didn't make our a big deal and our wasn't like anything happened with them. Both stories have strong leading roles I don't see as counting very much but it is debatable. The reason I say that is bc you can have a pair of twins who look a lot like and they act the same but if one has a strong personality and the other one is more of the shy tutor then this is overlooked to family and friends this is easily distinguished but it's a matter of opnion.

Pinnipedi I agree. I read Divergent ages ago, I'm reading the Hunger Games now, and they're completely different! Yes, they do have some similarities, but, like you said, not enough to be able to say that they are the exact same story. And I think that it's sexist to say that both books having a strong female protagonist makes them the same story. (Both books and characters are AMAZING).

Flickerflame A lot of the similarities mentioned in the first comment here are really basic. The majority of protagonists are strong, and obviously they have to be either female or male. Would you say that 2 stories are "the same story" because they both had a strong male lead? The majority of stories also include some element of romance. Romance sells. And your example there actually highlights one difference between the 2 trilogies - while TGH includes a love triangle centred around the main character, Divergent has one main pairing only. Post-apocalyptic dystopia is a genre. It's too common to say that automatically makes the stories the same. That genre does often include a corrupt government as a factor, and the plot does usually involve rebelling against or overcoming the corrupt government. If you delve deeper, the manner of the dystopia in both stories is really different. THG is a lot more in-your-face. A lot of Divergent fans like the idea of the factions, at least initially, until you read further and begin spotting the problems in their society.
