“I will never talk! Never!” The Professor was pushing it a bit. He was lucky to still be alive in this situation.
“You are beginning to irk me, Professor,” Dr Calico hissed, “I am irked! That will not do.”
“I will never tell you my secret, whether you’re irked or not!” The Professor insisted.
“Very well.” Calico turned round to his two heavy henchmen behind him. “Go and find the thing we were talking about earlier. It might get our little friend here to be a bit more… Communicative.”
Panting heavily in a damp alley, Penny took a quick break. She swigged at her water bottle and looked despairingly down at her dog Bolt, who looked at the floor. They had ran about two miles without stopping, trying to escape some of Calico’s minions, and they were now right next to Tower Bridge in London, England.
Little did they know they were being watched – They weren’t being watched by henchmen, though. Two pairs of slitted, coloured eyes peered at them in the darkness. A skeletal black tabby cat with golden eyes nudged his workmate, a chubby Burmese chocolate point cat, with eyes blue as sky. They knew what they had to do, and they had to do it now.
With a yowl and a hiss, the two cats pounced out of the shadows and onto the backs of Bolt and Penny, who freaked out and couldn’t get the cats off again.
“Argh! Bolt, get these bloody cats off us!” Penny yelled, trying to shake off the tubby one, who clung on with force and wouldn’t budge. Bolt couldn’t complete Penny’s command, as he also was having a little trouble with the skinny black cat. That was the distraction that the others needed.
“Get them!” Ah. They were being watched by henchmen after all. A huge, strong-looking henchman seized the back of Penny’s shirt and held her up. The other, who looked almost identical to the first henchman, clamped a dustbin-lid-sized hand over Bolt’s muzzle and picked him up by his face and middle. When both of them were immobilised, the men carried them away soundlessly, with the intention of taking them up to the top of Big Ben to be confronted by Calico himself…
“Penny!” the Professor was extremely relieved. His daughter was right there. He was saved – Oh, wait. She was being held by a henchman. Oh well.
“I think you will talk now,” Calico sneered, while Penny and Bolt struggled to get away from the situation, “now that I have your lucky Penny!”
“Daddy!” Penny yelled desperately. “Don’t tell him anything!”
Calico growled with annoyance. His patience was slipping, and his plans for world domination were going with it… He nodded to the henchmen seizing Bolt and Penny, who shifted on their feet to secure the prisoners in their grasp. That shift was all they needed.
Penny swung her foot back hard in a donkey-kick, hitting the man in the place it really hurts. He fell to the ground, groaning with pain and the knowledge he will never have kids now. Bolt clamped his powerful jaws around the henchman’s arm, who screamed out in pain as something crunched inside it. Bolt lifted him above his head, and with almighty force, slammed him back onto the ground again, knocking him unconscious.
“Bolt!” Penny yelled her command over the commotion around them as hundreds of henchmen and cats flooded the room at the heart of Big Ben. “Stare!” Bolt locked his eyes onto Calico’s super computer at the side of the room, streaming beams of electric green light from his eyes. The computer started to smoke, then flame, then exploded with such force it blew about thirty henchmen back down the narrow staircase that joined with the room. A hole was blown into the floor, and rubble crumbled and fell on the henchmen below, crushing them and stopping the alive ones from getting up the staircase again.
Penny swept through the pandemonium, darting through the crowds and beating henchmen with her folded-up electric scooter, heading towards her tied-up father. With one swift blow, she sliced through the knots with a pocket knife, setting her dad free. They both had a quick hug, then ran down the staircase, taking out the henchmen below as they scrambled over the rubble.
Bolt, meanwhile, was still in the clock tower. Pursued not by henchmen, but by Calico himself, Bolt ran upwards, up the spiralling staircase. Calico span after him, the spirals making him dizzy. They reached the very tip of the tower. Bolt was flooded with backlight from the back of the clock face. Different massive cogs and coils cast freakish shadows over the enemies. This was it. The final showdown between Bolt and Dr Calico.
“There is no where to run, puppy,” Calico hissed, advancing ever so slowly closer to Bolt, who had his head bowed low with a deep rumbling growl coming from his throat.
Someone was shouting below them.
A helicopter hovered outside the clock tower.
The floor was starting to cave in.
Did they care?
No, they did not.
“It’s over, dog,” Calico continued, “you will be dead, and you will never see your little Penny ever again!”
Bolt, now seething with anger, knew what to do. He was going to make it end. He was going to make Calico die. Filth like that didn’t deserve to live.
Outside, Penny and the Professor, some of the henchmen and all of the cats were running. They were racing for their lives. Because, outside, Big Ben was slowly falling apart. Large pieces of debris were falling at rocket speed onto the London streets, and anything around it was simply being crushed. A few TV cameras and reporters were huddled together surveying and filming the disaster. Apparently, Calico’s super computer exploding had done a lot more damage that supposed.
Bolt stared on, oblivious to all this, and Calico stared back. Bolt placed a paw forward. He placed a foot back. He dipped his head and growled. This was it. Calico was dead. A shockwave hit the floor as Bolt’s super bark ripped the place apart. The colossal bell that hung between them rang out extremely loud around them as the bark hit it. Calico was lifted off his feet as the very place he was standing caved in. He smashed out of the back of the clock tower and kept on flying, eventually landing backwards into a building, breaking his spine. He never saw light again.
Bolt didn’t have time to be proud. Everything was falling in and breaking around him, the sheer mass of the super bark weakening the already frail floors. The bell that made the large racket had already fallen through every floor. There was only one thing to do. It would be dangerous, and there would be a lot of damage. But he had to do it.
He crouched low to the crumbling ground. His body tensed and his legs coiled up. With one swift and powerful move, he uncoiled his leg muscles and leaped – Leaped higher and farther than he had ever done before. There was a huge smash as shards of glass showered the floor. Cogs flew and the massive hands of the clock hurled towards the ground as Bolt crashed through the clock face of Big Ben. Glass flew and blood rained as Bolt hit the floor at an awkward angle.
“Bolt!!” Penny screamed in despair as Bolt collapsed to the floor, exhausted and bleeding like fury. Penny had thought all this time that Bolt, being a super dog, could never bleed a single drop. This display told her otherwise. “Please, Bolt! Don’t die! You can’t die! Can you…?”
Penny looked at her dad as she said it.
“I’m sorry, Penny,” the Professor said with sorrow, “but he’s not completely indestructible. A blow like this could kill him.
“Oh, Bolt!” Penny burst into inconsolable tears as she snuggled into her wounded pal, covering herself in Bolt’s blood. He couldn’t die… He had gotten this far…
Penny heard a whining noise. She looked down. Bolt’s ear twitched – And one eye opened. Bolt was alive!
“Bolt! You’re okay!” Bolt got unsteadily to his feet, still bleeding. He barked feebly, and Penny hugged him. “I thought I’d lost you!”
Bolt looked up into Penny’s deep burgundy eyes, and she stared back into his golden brown. They knew from then on that everything was going to be alright. Calico was dead, the cats had all been put up for adoption and the remaining henchmen all got crappy jobs at places like McDonalds and ASDA. There would be no more trouble, and Bolt and Penny could finally run normal lives at last. A little girl and her dog, playing in the park with a stick – Like it should have been all along.

End.
"This was it. Calico was dead."
"This was it. Calico was dead."

The first flicker of dawn shone over the forest. Bolt woke up and stretched. Violet, however, wouldn't move. She was alive. Maybe she's just tired, Bolt thought. He nudged Violet gently on the side of her face. Violet raised her head and looked at Bolt, a soft sadness in her stare. "Bolt, my leg isn't doing so well," she said. Bolt gave a soft whimper and carefully "examined" the injured paw. "Well, well, look at this," Bolt turned over Violet's paw. "I think you cut it on a sharp rock." Violet looked for herself and nodded. Boy, she seemed exhausted. She was. Bolt decided he would lay beside...

Kira knew she was very lucky. Extremely lucky. She just couldn’t express to herself just how lucky she was.
This happened three weeks ago - It was her final day at Silver Lake Animal Shelter, and she was on the Death List. The Death List was a horrific thing for dogs at Animal Shelters. The people who run the Shelters give you a week, only a week, then you’re on the Death List. But there was hope. She was going to be rescued by a teenage girl and the sexiest American White Shepherd she had ever seen.
“Kira’s on her last day?” the girl asked that day, while the American White gazed...
