Yes the Jane and Belle thing is very stupid. It's because they are both brunettes who wear yellow dresses so people automatically assume they must be relations. This, plus the Mrs. Potts tea set which people think must have been passed down from Belle's family to Jane's. Hence them being the same family but it ignores the fact that Mrs. Potts and Chip became human again so those tea set pieces would no longer exist.
