I was just watching parts of The Black Cauldron, yesterday, and then I compared it to the trailer for Frozen II. It strikes me that I do not like the CGI much at all. The skin looks so plastic-like, and the "feel of a book coming alive" is totally absent. I just don't like CGI much, now. I liked the hand-drawn features, and--- aside from Tangled, the Series, none of that exists anymore... I just feel like less and less effort is being made to make a movie, especially a cartoon movie. Tbh I feel like Dreamworks puts more effort in their cgi movies by comparison to Disney. I like Pixar’s animation too but they don’t always get it right. It really is a shame that 2D animation is practically nonexistent in movies now. At least in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse it had unique animation that is normally not seen in movies, looking more like a comic book than anything else and while some probably didn’t like the animation you can tell there was so much effort put into detail for each character and background. With cgi even if there’s a lot of detail put into the animation and even if it does look beautiful, there’s no variety in it compared to 2D animation 1 day ago

I read this and thought "It's been a while since I've seen The Black Cauldron, but I certainly don't remember seeing and CGI in it." Then I thought that maybe there's another Black Cauldron movie I don't know about? Anyway, after re-reading this, I learned that I'm stupid. -_- 1 day ago

I think Disney's CGI animation is quite excellent, especially in Tangled and Moana. In Frozen, some of the CGI scenes look great, in other scenes meh, more could be done. I really do miss 2D though and I wish they hadn't got rid of their 2D studio. I really hope Disney comes back to 2D animation again every once in a while. The older movies, especially the classics really had that "book-coming-alive" feeling. 1 day ago

^Agreed. Well at least Disney's CGI animation has its own style, the animation is not as realistic as Dreamworks, but also not too cartoon-y like Pixar, Sony Animation, Illumination, etc. But as you said before, we can't deny how plastic-like the skin of CGI characters looks, and somehow yeah hand drawn animation remains better and doesn't look too similar between each other. The example is like compare both Aladdin and Pocahontas animations, you can see how these two have very different animation style 1 day ago

Disney has advertised the Princess Dolls from Wreck It Ralph 2 as a set with Vanellope (https://www.shopdisney.com/vanellope-with-princesses-from-ralph-breaks-the-internet-doll-set-1490754?request_type=mlt&gre_rt=ChQxNDU0NjM1NTcwNjczNDg0NjY0MRACGgJJViINZGVmYXVsdF9tb2RlbCgA). Posted 3 months ago

Elsa and Anna are not in this set, but Moana is, which is queer to me. If you include Moana, why are Elsa and Anna exempt? Disney makes me think yet again, that they consider Frozen its own franchise. And Moana has her own franchise--- because she has been marketed separately, too, before this? Thanks, Disney. Your basic confusion level has reached a new low. Too weird. 3 months ago
