Don't get the "never talked" argument about Eric/Ariel, first of all, they were another representation of love at first sight troupe that most fairy tales and Disney movies tend to stick to and which was started with Snow White and Cinderella that unlike Eric and Ariel never even happened to actually get to know their princes or learn something about their personalities before they fell in love as opposed to Ariel who saw Eric being an adventurous, brave and noble person.
Pocahontas/Smith and Tiana/Naveen on the other hand were downright horrible for each other. Smith nearly bashed her brains out during their first meeting as he intended to do to any native american he meets if they don't happen to be as hot as Pocahontas, their relationship got no development or basis or even potential to begin with but I can at least see them being another, although a pretty failure, representation of love at first sight concept that DP movies are known for. Tiana and Naveen on the other hand showed absolutely no indication of mutual attraction or even mutual respect up untill the point when they supposedly fell in love after hours of mutual insults and after Naveen repeatedly and frequently mocking Tiana's working class having a general tendency to humiliate less privileged people for their social status or even their appearence (which is a pretty disturbing thing for a heroine that is marketed as strong and independent to end up with this kind of person not to mention their first kiss happening because she wanted to get his money, which is in no way romantic).
