I finally had the time to sit down and really think about what my favorite Princess movies are. It was NOT easy! I love all of these films. They are all filled with wonderful songs, lovely characters, and great plots. I love them all, there's just some I enjoy more than others. With that being said, here's my lineup!
9. Sleeping Beauty
This film is truly a work of art. It's carefully and beautifully drawn, and has a romantic soundtrack. It just seems to drag on in certain parts, and can be a bit boring. Not to mention that Princess Aurora has very little screen time. For the most part, she's sleeping! I love how it ends though, with her and Prince Phillip dancing their way to their very own happily ever after.
8. The Princess and the Frog
I honestly wasn't thrilled when this movie came out, and I'm not really sure why. After it came out on DVD I basically wanted to see what the fuss was about. I thought to myself "theres no WAY this could be in the same category as the other Princess films". Well, I was wrong! It's not my all time favorite or anything, but it's a really good movie. And come on...it gave us Prince Naveen...we should ALL be thankful this movie came out!!
7. Mulan
I don't see how anyone could not like this movie...it's such an epic film. Mulan is definitely one of a kind, not like any other Princess. One of my favorite things about her, is that she keeps her family first. She's also very clumsy, which is easy for me to relate too, because I'm always tripping and falling, or stubbing my toe. This move fascinates me each time I see it. She never ceases to amaze me with her courage and her dedication to bring honor to her family.
6. Aladdin
I quickly became obsessed with this movie when it came out. It's such an exciting movie, with lots of comedy, magic, romance and really great songs. I love the sassy Princess Jasmine. Some may call her a bitch, but I call her a WOMAN...come on..we're all bitches at times, you know it. But I don't think she's a bitch...people just assume that because she so freely speaks her mind. I wish I were more like her in that sense.
5. Pocahontas
This one is definitely different than any other Princess film. There's no Fairy Godmother, Knight in shining armour, or glass slipper here. Which may be the reason people dont like it...because it lacks all the things we relate with a Princess. I have always loved this movie. Pocahontas is the prettiest Princess, I think. She is utterly ravishing! What makes me love this movie is the relationship between Pocahontas and John Smith. Their love appears more realistic than some of the others. And of course the end is one of the most bittersweet endings of all time.
4. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
This movie used to be much lower on my list, but I watched it not too long ago and forgot how much I loved it. Snow White is simply adorable. I love all of the dwarfs, especially Grumpy and Bashful; they've always been my favorites. I love their sweet little cottage. Even though I love how Snow White gets her happy ending with the Prince of her dreams, I can't help but to feel like she should've stayed with the Dwarfs...they really love her, and she just up and leaves them for a guy that sang to her once, and then kissed what he thought was her dead corpse! But, all in all it's a spectacular film.
3. The Little Mermaid
I love this movie more each time I watch it. I almost don't even know where to start! I adore Ariel...she's one of my favorite Princesses. She's brave, spunky, loving, sweet, and just adorable. One of my favorite scenes is when she sees Eric for the very first time. The look on that sweet innocent face is just...priceless. The characters are funny, the scenery is beautiful, and the music is just the best. All around, you simply can't miss with this movie!
2. Beauty and the Beast
I can't tell you how many times I begged my parents to take me to the movie theatre when this came out. We must have gone 6 times. And I pretty much wore the video tape out from watching it a hundred times a day when it came out on video. But now, as an adult, I still enjoy watching it. Not because it makes me feel like a little girl again, but because of the romance. It's such a beautiful love story. Belle is my #2 favorite Princess, and the Beast is my #1 favorite Prince. I still cry at the end, even though I've seen it a million times by now and I KNOW how it ends, but Belle is just so heartbroken I just can't help myself. The musical is coming in my area at the end of the year and I can't wait to see it! I never got a chance the last time it was here (back in 1999!). This really is the most beautiful love story ever told.
1. Cinderella
This probably won't surprise those of you who know me very well! It's a well known fact that she is my favorite Princess, and her movie is also my favorite Disney movie. For my 4th birthday, my wishlist was: Cinderella Video, Superstar Barbie, Oopsy Daisy Baby, and a fishing pole. I got everything I wanted, including the movie. I wish I was able to upload the video from that party of me opening that present. I was so excited, I was literally laughing and crying at the same time. Back then you couldn't buy the movie, you could only rent it. But the video store we constantly rented it from finally told my Mom she could just have it...we were the only ones who rented it anyways! A few months after my birthday I went to Disney World for the first time. Thus the obsession became even worse! Seeing Cinderella Castle in person pretty much did me in for life. I'm hooked. But back to the movie...I adore Cinderella...she's pretty, she's sweet and kind no matter what kind of shit is thrown her way, and never stops believing in her dreams. Everytime I watch that movie, I feel like that excited 4 year old all over again.
