So this was a topic that was brought up a couple weeks ago that brought on a big debate. There were people who said a fat princess wouldn't be a good role model, that obesity kills people, that just because there's only thin princesses doesn't mean kids are going to worry about it, that the princesses have to be beautiful, etc.

I used to read a lot of books and watch a lot of tv growing up, mostly Harry Potter and Disney. As much as I love the Harry Potter series and Disney movies, the way fat people are depicted is really upsetting. I mean there's Dudley who's described as being as fat as a baby orca and then there the comedy relief in Disney movies who are fat half the time (Mr Smee, Gus, Le Fou, etc) or there's times where the ugly people are fat (Ursula).

I've been chubby all my life and I've been made fun of for the rolls on my stomach and I've had to deal with comments about what I'd be eating. Half of the time it'd be from sisters and the other half from school. So seeing how fat people are depicted in media made me feel even worse about myself.

I know what some of you are going to say:
"I was made fun of for how I look but I didn't try to change anything about myself!"

Here's the thing though; everyone is different. You can be made fun of for being too skinny and still not try to change anything about yourself, you can be made fun of for being too fat and still not try to change anything about yourself. There's people with a lot of confidence, and there's people with almost no confidence.

"But an obese princess could encourage kids to be overweight!"

Not if done right! There are people who are fat who are still healthy, it just takes forever to lose weight. If we had a princess who was overweight and wasn't shown eating in every scene she's in or at least be eating healthy foods then that could help encourage kids to eat healthier. Also Idk about you guys but it's not like skinny people in movies or books are great role models when it came to eating healthier too. There's been characters who eat what they want and still not gain a pound, what does that tell kids?

Examples:

"I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face"
"I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face"

Almost every episode/movie these two are in they eat their weight in food
Almost every episode/movie these two are in they eat their weight in food

Fun fact: My husband is chubbier than me. He weighs a couple hundred pounds but he's not unhealthy. In fact he's healthier than I am. He goes on more walks than me, works out more, eats better (sometimes I just don't eat or I eat something unhealthy) and he loses only a little weight at a time. Me? I could almost pass for thin but I don't have the same routine as him. I don't eat breakfast like him (he almost always eats oatmeal), I rarely go on walks with him, and most of my diet consists of sandwiches, chips, and chocolate. I'll eat something healthy every now and then but it's not as much as my husband.

"But obesity kills people!"

True but you know what else kills peope? Anorexia and bulimia

"Princesses have to be beautiful!"

Please don't think this way, it's hurtful. Not everyone fits into the idea of beauty, there's going to be some fat people you don't think is pretty just like there's going to be skinny people you don't think is pretty.

Also it's also not that hard to make animated women of all shapes and sizes be beautiful. There's beautiful animated fat women, buff women, and short women

Who will play Belle?
Who will play Belle?
So, I have been hearing from many people over their disagreements about Emma Watson's casting as Belle. So, I thought that I would write this article about it if she wasn't cast at all, first no hard feelings to any Emma Watson fans out there (including myself) or to the actress herself. So here are my list of actresses.

1. Anne Hathaway

I first heard her sing in Les Miserables, she blew everybody away with her rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream', she's a marvelous singer in her own rights and I'm glad she's a talented actress!

2. Keira Knightley

I remember doing a poll regarding this 6 years ago...

Who's singing voice do you choose? Jasmine?
Who's singing voice do you choose? Jasmine?
So, this song has been covered by a few artists, like Lucy Hale by turning it into a country version. Then, another Disney star sang it, it is none other than Lea Salonga herself! Are you ready for a battle between Team Salonga and Team Menzel? Here we go!

Idina Menzel

While I enjoy her version, she's a bit pitchy in certain parts. Although at some parts she's very emotional and I like that, because she's very ominous like Elsa and I'm glad that I like her version.

Lea Salonga

Many of you know that she was the singing voice of Mulan and Jasmine, when I heard her version. I thought that she sounds even better than Idina! I would not actually mind her voicing Elsa anyway.
But I guess that they don't want Elsa to sound like Jasmine and Mulan!

Conclusion

While both of them are good singers, I would say that Lea is the best singer out of these two!
Mulan?

Since it isn't so much left until Christmas I decided to write a few articles here on that theme, not sure how many I'll do, but here's the first one. You may not remember this song, but link in case you haven't heard the song. Anyway originally the song had the 6 first Disney Princesses singing the song, but I decided to redo the song a bit by adding 6 new princesses and their parts has new lyrics. I decided to exclude Merida, so the new parts will be dedicated to Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa. I'll write on each part which princess that has that part, anyway hope you'll...

What I will write will be similar to what I wrote on the last article. Most of my opinions are the same except for Aladdin. I wanted to write an updated article because I finally rewatched Aladdin. Please no rude comments. Enjoy!

12. Brave- I despise this movie I really don't like Merida. While she may be a strong I think she is just rude and annoying. The film is so forgettable. I haven't seen the film in about 4 years and I don't plan on seeing it again.

12. Frozen- As many of you know, like Brave I detest this movie. The characters are very irritating & the movie was trying way too hard...

Charm-the Real Feminine Mystique:
"A girl need not have perfect features nor an outstanding figure to be popular. But she should have charm. As Sir James Barrie had Maggie say in his play, What Every Woman Knows, 'If you have it, you don't need to have anything else; and if you don't have it, it doesn't much matter what else you have.'

Once you have acquired charm, you'll probably never lose it. Especially after you have discovered how much happier your life is because you are considered to be that charming girl down the street.

To be charming you need not to be any particular age, weight or height...

Inspired by link, who did an amazing job(! <3), I really wanted to do my own version with favorite Openings. I actually really love the original fairy tale concept of the Disney Princesses and I love the openings that give a more magical and fairy tale kind of feel. (By the way, I am primarily trying to stick to the first 2-4 minutes.) So here is my ranking of the DP film openings, I hope you guys enjoy this light read! :D

12. Frozen: Frozen Heart/Ice Opening
I personally found this to be uninteresting and irrelevant to the film's magic, fairy tale and princesses (mostly) in the film. No explanation...

I, myself only knew 7 out of 14. Who knows, you might know more than me or know less than me. Either way enjoy reading and absorb the knowledge!

Trivia

1) Production designer Richard Vander Wende devised a simple color scheme for the film, inspired by its desert setting. Blue (water) stands for good, red (heat) for evil, and yellow (sand) is neutral. For example, the villainous Jafar is clad in blacks and reds, while the virtuous Jasmine wears blue. Another example is in the Cave of Wonders, where the lamp's chamber is blue, and the ruby that tempts Abu is bright red.

2) Jasmine was originally...

Here's my quick top10 favorites of Disney Princess movie songs. I get stuck to a new tune or lyrics far easily, if its hummable and peppy especially. I like listening to songs and don't have particular fixed tastes in genres. Though i find, i tend to gravitate towards pop, rock and Indian music. Very rarely I enjoy classical music, although some that I love become my all time favorites and they don't die-out. I guess that's how classic music is. Anyways, this is my current list of top 10 favrorites songs from DP movies, it keeps changing for sure as I move onto newer songs.

.... Or Are They? I keep hearing this massive distortion that Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora and sometimes others are "unrealistically perfect". Well first of all, they're not actually "perfect" but yes they strive for it and come pretty close. The number one reason? The earlier DPs were made in a time where families were still valued as well as good morals and they were on their best behavior in front of children, hoping that the kids would learn to embrace positive traits and reject negative traits so they would be more positive people. They cared more about well-roundedness, being modest...

Okay, so I have come across a lot of criticism against Merida that she is childish, rude, reckless, selfish and what not. But since she's my 2nd favorite princess, i'd like to put up a case in her favor for people to consider and see her in better light. I have tried to dissect the movie scenes, probed into possible perspective on various minor details that may have been overlooked.

Why she isn't sophisticated as others:
She no doubt loves both her mother and father, but Merida takes off a part of feisty, loud and unapologetically honest side from her father. She loves to fight with him, laughing...

The saddest moments from DP movies that made me cry and most often they still do. Some are close to heart while some are so well enacted and animated that i'm moved by the simplicity of emotions.

13. 3 good fairies put the entire kingdom to sleep:
Despite their best of efforts, they lose Aurora to the spell and the only way to make things work is to put the entire kingdom to sleep, waking only when she awakens. It makes me sad to see them blame themselves for this loss. It doesn't make me cry though, but yes, it puts me in a sad mood.

12. Cinderella crying in the forest:

So I've been reading that the "Prettiest Princess" ranking is sort of like a right of passage article that all of the fans here on fanpop do so I figured it was time for my own. Instead of just doing a physical beauty ranking, I wanted to do an overall beauty ranking instead. I personally see ranking women based only on their physical beauty as objectifying them so I am kind of confused that it's not looked at that way here on fanpop? (Not saying this to judge or condone others but just out of genuine curiosity and confusion considering the way some fans have reacted to perceived objectification...

Like I stated in my last wallpost I'm about to lose my grandmother and so I decided to write an article about some of the Saddest Moments in the DP Movies in no particular order (but I'll mention my number 1 in the end of the article). So anyway hope you'll like this article

Brave: The 2nd Sunrise
I may not be a big fan of Brave, but this scene is sad, when I first saw this movie in the cinemas I cried during this scene and I still find this scene to be quite sad

Cinderella: The Dress Ripping Scene
This scene is so sad to watch everytime, Cinderella had the chance of finally getting out of the...

If any of you are familiar with character stylization or really art in general you might like this article. I'm talking about character stylization in the sense that when the artist is also the author of the character's personality and has written out their every thought in simply the way they are designed. This can also be called "interpreted art" as anyone can perceive it differently, but a common factor still remains that everyone agrees on. BASICALLY I'm going to "guess" what the princess' personality is like based on the way she's drawn, see what the general consensus is on her personality...
