As the sun settled down into the sky, Ariel watched as steam poured out of the crock-pot the cook was using. It made a popping noise once in awhile from all the boiling it was doing, which made her jump. She was curious, and wanted to ask what made it do that. But, she couldn't. Not after she gave her voice away. She touched her throat a bit, until someone pulled on her back. She turned her head to see the maid, short and plump, grumpy faced.
"You should be getting ready! Dinner's only in less than thirty minutes."
Ariel had a strong urge to fight back and tell her she couldn't boss her around like that, but all she could do was nod and sigh.
The maid took her to a room, which had many articles of "human clothing" in it. She was sat down, as the maid walked around, choosing out different dresses and showing them to Ariel. She was so used to the boring colors presented on them. Blue, like the sea, green, like the seaweed, red, like Sebastian.
Ariel frowned, knowing that Sebastian would surely tell her dad. And she missed her dad, and her sisters.
Before she could think anymore, the maid held up a dress in a color that Ariel had rarely seen. A light pink color, like the seashells in her sandcastle.
She smiled widely, and stood up, taking it in her arms. The maid pushed her into a dressing room, awaiting of her outside.
Ariel looked at her bare self in the mirror. She touched herself where she used to have gills, and touched her feet where the slimy tail was once placed. She touched her stomach, and her back, and her chest. She wasn't used to having to take care of a whole body. As she spun around, she smiled to herself, and then shoved her dress on quickly.
