What better way to celebrate my birthday than by writing an article? Subject matter: My favourite Disney Princess singing voice. Not the BEST since I as a regular person can not judge how good ones voice is (unless you're Rebecca Black in Friday of course) but my personal preference. Since I'm going to be spending my birthday doing nothing but watching Disney movies and ignoring the real world, I have a chance to finally form a coherent opinion on the matter. And since favourite Disney Princess Signing Voices appears to be on trend with us on the DP Spot lately, what better article to write? Well, here it is. Enjoy!
10. Jasmine
It kills me to put her so low, since she is my favourite princess, but I just really dislike Lea Salonga as Jasmine. It sounds like every other generic pop-tart voice. Not that there's anything wrong with that type of voice, but I for once believe that the voice of a Disney Princess should have that timeless, legendary feel. The kind of voice you wont find anywhere else. Plus Jasmine's voice does not suit her regular speaking voice at all. I find Jasmine's speaking voice very rich and sensual (that doesn't sound awkward at all) and I find her singing voice quite high, floaty and most of all generic. It just doesn't match the huskier quality of her speaking voice to me, and that's probably why I don't like A Whole New World. To be fair, Jasmine's not the only victim of that horrible voice phenomenon in that song, Aladdin's voice makes him sound like he's eleven. *Braces self for the hate.*
9. Rapunzel
Any one who picked up on my dislike of the generic-fruity-poppy voices probably saw this one coming. Yes, Mandy Moore is a good singer in the sense of the word. But she's not good in the sense of Disney Legend sense of the word in my opinion. I think most of the problem is the whole let's cast famous people as main characters that'll rake in the profit thing. I don't like her voice, it is in no way my cup of tea.
8. Mulan
Yes, I'm aware it's really messed up Mulan is two spot high than Jasmine ever though Lea Salonga sang for both of them. As I expressed before, Jasmine's voice was very generic. Mulan was a whole different story. As a child, I never would've guessed they were both the same person. Also, get this: I prefer Mandy Moore more than Lea Salonga, and I prefer Lea Salonga more than Mandy Moore. Is your mind blown yet?
7. Aurora
I swear Mary Costa is a goddess incarnate, JUST because of her voice. Seriously, she's probably in the top five, no top three BEST Disney singers. I know I said as an untrained singer, I can't tell. But come one. Listen to it. Now, just because I think her voice is gorgeous doesn't mean it's one of my favourite's. Even though her voice drips epicness and is more proof of her obvious heavenly power, I can't sit around and listen to it all day. So she falls to lucky number seven.
6. Belle
Oh, just missed the Top 5 Belle! Better luck next time. I think the only thing I like about Belle is her voice. It suits her a lot. I think her voice is very pretty, and I love how it's less princessy and more natural. The thing I enjoy the most though is it's one of the deeper voices of the princesses. Now it doesn't resonate emotion like Mulan or drip heavenly epicness like Aurora, so how did Belle beat them out? Well, I could listen to Belle all day if I wanted too. And I have. I am not proud of this, but I will admit. I like singing Belle's voice. Let's move on with this shame train.
5. Snow White
I know a lot of people don't like her voice. I happen to adore it with every fibre of my being. I've yet to hear a single voice like hers, and if I ever do meet someone, I will lock them in a room and make them talk for days and day and days. Kidding, or am I? But it's so cute and princessy and I personally think it's timeless in it's own way. It may not be everyone's favourite voice, but I bet that anyone who grew up in the English speaking world can recognize Snow White's voice.
4. Ariel
Any one who says they don't like Ariel's voice is lying, or a hipster. I'm betting on hipster though, they're everywhere now. But still, Ariel's voice I heavenly. It's not complex, it's very simple and smooth and washes over you like a wave. Ironic choice of words, I know. It's also very memorable, and has a sweeter edge to it. Jodi Benson has no rough edges when she's singing as Ariel, and every note is full of passion and desire. Fabulous voice, it's a guilty pleasure of mine to listen to Part Of Your World on loops for hours at a time. Like Belle, I don't adore the character, but I go crazy over the voice.
3. Cinderella
Cinderella's voice is a flawless lullaby. By far the most soothing an gentle of all of the voices. Her voice is the equivalent to sleeping on a marshmallow. A giant marshmallow. Can you imagine? Like Aurora, Cinderella's voice has that heavenly quality. I do listen to her voice a lot, not creepy at all. Since I'm one of those weird people who kills the planet by sleeping with the light on because I'm a paranoid nutcase, I listen to Cinderella to fall asleep. Like I said, flawless lullaby.
2. Pocahontas
This voice gets so little credit for it's awesomeness. It's such a beautiful, powerful voice. I could listen to it all day, every day for about 72 weeks nonstop. That's how much I love it. Every song is great with this voice. Seriously, you have no idea how many versions of Colours of the Wind exist, and not one of them can compare to Judy Kuhn. Not a single on. I find that the more I love a singer, the harder I find it to coherently explain why I love their voice. So number one will be fun. But still, Judy's voice is stunning. I wish more people loved it. :(
1. Tiana
ASKDLFSASGHLGH *dies*
Well, I think that explains it. I'm kidding. Tiana's voice is amazing, stunning, stupendous. I can't give it enough praise. Every single thing that comes out of her mouth is amazing. EVERY SINGLE WORD. Nothing can defeat the heavenliness that is her voice. Her voice is my ringtone! I think that explains it well enough.
Well, there you have it. My slightly coherent, very jumbled, fan-girl-sugar-highism list that is my favourite DP singer. Sorry I suck at expressing love, explains why I have cats. Thanks for reading! :)
