Love is one of the strongest emotions. It is so powerful is can bring you to your knees. Love can be joyous, and it can also be painful; it has many faces. I’ve long wanted to make a list of my favorite love stories, and I thought it would be interesting to make a list of my favorite Disney Princess love stories. This list is different than my list of favorite couples. I’m strictly going by their love stories; how they fall in love, the way they interact with each other. This list was way more difficult to make than my favorite couples list. It took me nearly two hours to finish! I put a lot of effort into this, so please read it and let me know what you think!

10. Mulan & Shang
This one probably doesn’t come as a shock. Throughout the movie, Mulan is in disguise and Shang doesn’t know that she is in fact a woman. After her identity is exposed, Shang spares her life. They save the Emperor, and finally have time to interact. It doesn’t last long though…Mulan mounts her horse, and heads home. Shang ends up following her there, and she asks him if he wants to stay for dinner. We don’t see anything else between these two. I would like to think that they took things slow, and got to know each other a little better. I haven’t seen Mulan II, so I’m not sure how their relationship develops. I placed them so low because they lack a LOT of passion.

9. Tiana & Naveen
I’m not so crazy about these two as a couple. They are cute; don’t get me wrong, I just have a hard time believing that they are deeply in love. The entire time they’re in the bayou as frogs they practically hate each other; Tiana think he’s a spoiled pampered playboy, and he thinks she is just a low class waitress who is beneath him. Of course at the VERY end, he finds that he is in love with her, and her him. They decide to stay frogs, so they can stay together. Mama Odie of course had one more trick up her sleeve. Once they were married and kissed they became human again. It’s sweet, but I just don’t find their love that convincing.

8. Cinderella & Prince Charming
I’m all for “love at first sight”. As you all know, Cinderella is my all time favorite Princess, and has been since my childhood. I just don’t sense the heat between her and Prince Charming. I adore the “So This is Love” scene. I just wish we had more time to see them fall in love. Their love at first sight just isn’t as convincing as some of the other couples. I’m happy for Cinderella and the happy ending she gets. If anyone deserves it, it’s her!

7. Rapunzel & Flynn
Another love I don’t find very convincing. Since meeting, Flynn desperately wants to get away from Rapunzel, with his satchel of course. No until she heals his hand with her magic hair do I sense a change in the way he views her. Rapunzel, on the other hand, is obsessed with seeing the lanterns. Not until she and Flynn serenade each other does she start to see him in a new “light”.

You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on. ~Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice

6. Snow White & The Prince
Now THIS is true love at first sight. I know that they don’t spend very much time together, but you can tell that they are in love. The way they look at each other…oh! It warms my heart. You can truly feel the love between these two. The Prince searches everywhere for Snow White, and when he finds her, she is dead. He is utterly heartbroken, but after he kisses her and she wakes up, I swear; I’ve never seen two people so happy.

You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. ~Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

5. Jasmine & Aladdin
Now these two are hot for each other. Next to Pocahontas and John Smith, I think Jasmine and Aladdin are the most passionate for each other. It doesn’t take them long to fall in love. They meet while Jasmine is in disguise. She finds out that she can find a man without him knowing that she is of royal descent; which isn’t the reason she ran away…just an added bonus I guess! To her knowledge the peasant boy she met was put to death, but then out of nowhere comes “Prince Ali” who turns out to be the peasant boy in disguise. It doesn’t take her long to figure it out and she tricks him into admitting he was the boy in the market place. They really love each other, and they know how to show it. They are constantly kissing!

4. Ariel & Eric
“Eriel” is my favorite couple. I really love their love story. I like how Ariel is the one to pursue the relationship. Normally, it’s the Prince. Ariel is hooked when she first spots Eric. She becomes obsessed with him…can you blame her? Hello…PORN <-I know Jonna, Jen, & Doggy will know what I mean here! Eric really does try not to fall for Ariel, because he wants to find the mystery girl with the voice and marry her. He fights it hard, but just when he lets his guard down, “Vanessa” appears and hypnotizes him. Luckily, all ends well. The scene where Ariel rises out of the water in that gorgeous sparkly gown, and runs into his arms makes me squeal with freaking joy. Seeing them happy makes me melt.

3. Aurora & Phillip
We may not see these two together for very long, but I am in love with their love story. Betrothed from birth, then they meet in the forest by chance, fall in love, then find out they can’t be together because they are promised to someone else, but they don’t know it’s with each other! It’s classic!

2. Pocahontas & John Smith
This love story breaks my heart. They don’t get to live happily ever after. It reminds me so much of Romeo and Juliet. Their relationship was doomed from the start; both from very different worlds. No one would understand their love. Their two worlds battle it out, but then Pocahontas throws herself onto John Smith, begging her Father to spare his life because she loves him. John Smith gets shot, and has to return to England. All of us wanted Pocahontas to get on the ship with him, but she stayed. It breaks my heart when they carry John off and his and Pocahontas’s hands break away. I think the reason I love this story so much, is because it doesn’t have a happy ending. It’s sad, and bittersweet; it’s realistic.

1. Belle & The Beast
The song says it best; “barely even friends, then somebody bends, unexpectedly”. This is my all time favorite Disney love story. Belle and the Beast start out as enemies. But, after spending a little time together, the walls they built up start to come down, and the fall in love. I admire that Belle was able to look past the Beasts outward appearance to see the Prince inside. By proving that he could find someone to love him despite his looks, the spell is broken, and he is human again…and a pretty one at that! They live happily ever after.
