First there was Dick Grayson. Then he quit, and became Nightwing. Then there was Jason Todd, but the Joker killed him. He eventually came back as a villain/anti-hero. Then came Tim Drake. He was replaced by his girlfriend and the superhero known as Spoiler, Stephanie Brown. Then SHE died, and Tim was given back the mantle. Stephanie eventually came back to life (turns out she only faked her death) and became the third Batgirl, after Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain. Then Bruce died, and Dick took over as Batman. He decided to train Damian Wayne, Bruce's son with Talia Al Ghul, as Robin, and Tim Drake became Red Robin. Then Bruce returned and Dick went back to being Nightwing.
BUT WAIT, in 2011 DC massively screwed with their continuity (the "New 52", you may have heard of it), and now the following changes are things:
-Tim Drake was never Robin.
-Stephanie Brown does not exist.
-Cassandra Cain does not exist.
-Dick Grayson was never Batman, Bruce Wayne never died
Got all that?
CUZ THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM BABY.
Alternate Universe Robins.
The most important is Carrie Kelley, the Robin from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Then there's Helena Wayne, Bruce's kid with Selina Kyle on Earth-2 (I don't really get that bit either). She's currently opperating as THIS Earth's Huntress, even though she's still from Earth-2. Before that Helena Bertinelli was the (vastly superior tbh) Huntress. But, the New-52 changed things.
...
So uh, 5. There have been 5 Robins.
