It really depends on what kind of a read your after. If you just want some light vampire love story stuff then look at Twilight lol. But I really reccomend UGLIES by Scott Westerfield (really good book/series). The vampire Diaries is also not too bad (better than Twilight).

The House of Night series was Ah-mazing once you really get into it its like your own personal soap opera at least in my opinion... the mc Zoey gets in multiple love triangles and even though your mad at her your hoping she can pull herself togethe. I've read Twilight too and it doesn't even compare. Check out the website its houseofnightseries.com and at the bottom are all the books in order and you can read the 1st chapter.

Evernight series would be best for you...but House of Night is good too, and Night World is awsome!!! (I still like the Evernight series better)

It's not exactly vampire genre but the "Mortal Instruments" by Cassandra Clare is a good series.
As well as the Evernight series

The Immortal Intrusments are a very good series as wel las the vampire diaries and Twilight Saga as well. I started to read this book called evermore it is by Alyson Noel. It doesn't really have anything to do with vampires, but one of the main characters is immorttal.Its very good and the second book of the series comes out in August of 09

You should read The Night Huntress Novels by Jeaniene Frost. They have all the things you are looking for and they are simply just amazing.

I'm confused, you seem to have already found Vampire academy. If your asking for a good vampire book, look for Vampire kisses. They're not that hard to find.

if you like graphic novels,the author says there are more characters and a different story line then the novel witch is weird, but eh. I'm waiting for all 8 of them to come out.

then there's vampire Diaries People say it's alot light twilight. I hope they are talking about the tv show.


also if you like Vampires there are Angel novels! I don't remember the authors names off the top of my head, but do an amazon search and it'll pop up.

Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine is my favorite.

House of night series seriously sucks.
Mortal instruments is somewhat amazing, the sookie stackhouse series is good if you're about 16 and older.
The host by meyer is really good. I'm not a big twilight fan.

Try the nightwalker series, brotherhood of blood series and the immortals series. Have read all of them and they are good.

You should try the Mortal Instruments series. The first book is City of Bones, and while it falls under the supernatural genre, the plot and characters really stand on their own.If you thought the vampire/human or student/teacher dilemma was an obstacle, just wait!

Oddly enough nobody mentioned one of my favorite books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes called In the forests of the night. She has others as well like demon in my view, the sequel to In the forests of the night. She is incredible having written the first one when she was only 13 and it wasn't what I would consider juvenile in the least bit. I recommend it to anyone who likes vampire novels in any style.

omg read the Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan. my favorite books :)

Not like Vampire Academy, perhaps, but about young people finding a way in a world they don't fit into. "The Borribles" a trilogy by Michael De Larrabeiti; usually easy to find via Bookfinder, republished in one volume a few years ago. Utterly brilliant in its introduction of a subculture into "our" world. Maybe a predecessor in some ways to things like Chris Fowler's brilliant, though much harsher "Roofworld".
Just a thought.

The Morganville Vampire books are just as good, if not better than vampire Academy. twilight and The Vampire Diaries are also pretty good too!! Your welcome

BUEATIFUL CREATURES by garcia / stohl should fit the bill . there's a sequal BUEATIFUL DARKNESS , but i havent read it .

I think you definitely should read 'The Immortals' by 'Alyson Noël' they're so much better than Twilight! <3 :) I totally fell in love with the characters! :)

the drake chronicles are good books to read. the first on is hearts at stake, then blood feud, after that is out for blood, the next one is bleeding hearts, then blood moon, and the last one is blood prophecy. if you want to read the 1st 3 then read ruling passion it has the 1st 3 books

I don't know about 'sexual tension" but there is the Harry Potter series. And SINCE it is probably one of THE most popular book AND movie franchises around, I don't think I need to go into much detail on what it is about! :)
