A lot of the Disney princesses all wait for a "Prince Charming" to come and save them, and just look pretty. And only a few of them end up saving the day, and the guy usualy does (IE: In The Little Mermaid, Eric defeats Ursula, not Ariel). Not all Disney princesses are like this, though.(Mulan is more of a positive influence.)

I personally think it's inbetween due to that they're not perfect and all have faults. But, they're also a negative impact due to that they're always so pretty and always get cute boys and have happy endings.

Life, just isn't like that.

Have you noticed that almost all Disney princesses have no Moms? Isn't that a little weird?

And the adult females in the stories are usually evil witches or wicked stepmothers. Where are the positive adult female role models in these stories? (And where are the Moms??)

So not only are they waiting for a prince charming to save them (usually), it's like they're teaching girls to see other females as threatening and mean and to not bond with their own gender.

Even though there are some movies that I really liked, I think If I ever had a daughter I would give her other things for entertainment. I don't think it's a positive thing overall.

Nope. I love the Disney princess movies, but seriously, the heroines make me gag. And they give little girls such bad stereotypes to follow, that apparently, all ugly people are evil and all beautiful people are good (apart from the exception of the evil queen in Snow White).

This shouldn't be even up for debate. They're neither, they're just cartoons. Anyone who thinks they're a positive or negative influence on little girls is most definitely over-thinking things.

Everything influences something in one way or another. It doesn't have to be human to be influential

I never said they can't be influential, I just mean that they don't necessarily have an effect on little girls. It's just all that feminism tripe, because the princesses can be girly and dependent people think that's what they're teaching little girls to be. It's not like Disney has an agenda to make pretty princesses out of every 2-6 year old girl.

I think they all have qualities that make them strong in some ways, but it's more evident in others. I think cartoon heroines who are stronger tend to come from non-disney films.

more negative.

They are all GORGEOUS woman with flowing hair...as if there aren't other kinds of princesses out there.

and most of them are white....as if you can only be a princess if you are white. (this is what a girl told me)

hey, are you a racist, cassie-1-2-3? because you put the ethnic princess on negative.
well yes, they are HORRIBLE "role models"!!! Cinderella was originally "black", and so was sleeping beauty. and why is Tiana basically a frog though the ENTIRE movie!? that's literally saying, "only 'white girls' can be TRUE princesses". tha's BS!!!
i'm "white" myself, but that's just taking away the ethnic girls' faitth and hope!!!!!! hmph, stupid racism! and why is EVERY character in the cruel world blue eyed? that's wrong, and prejudice!!!!

I used to watch them when I was little but now, after sixteen years of non-fairytale miserable life,I decided they are not very good role-models.Bcoz
a)they are way too girly to role up their sleeves and do something manual
b)theres always prince charming who will save them even if they are in the verge of dying
c)they are all so pretty with the princess iconic 'blue eyed, golden haired and fair skinned' with a few exceptions ,of course.
d)the final and the last'.......LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.THE END.'
Im sorry if Im being negative, but I dont feel life has done me any justice.
But it keeps the kids' eyes eyes glued on to the tv.lol

With the exception of Mulan, a girl who joins the army and becomes powerful in a mans world, Belle, an intelligent bookworm who cares more about whats inside than beauty,Tiana, a girl trying to be happy on her own working hard to have a good life and Rapunzel, a free spirited girl with a heart longing for adventure and great skills with a frying pan, all the others depend on beauty and princes to make their life happy. Even these Disney princesses have their happy endings with a prince, partly because of their beauty.
So only four out of all princesses arent THAT bad.And They almost always seem to be white! With the exeption of Jasmine, the Arabian princess, Mulan, the Chinese warrior and Tiana. And has ANYONE noticed there is no LATINA princess! Oh what now theyre being racist against my people! Mi gente! God, there is so many things wrong with disney princesses.

A lot of them, I believe, are just damsels in distress that are there to look pretty, be rescued, and marry the prince. The only princess I really really like is Mulan, for obvious reasons. And maybe also Pocahontas, I mean, giving up the man you love to lead your people, that's not very common, especially in Disney movies.

I think they definitely are positive, I mean Belle taught me books and reading were cool, Mulan taught me independence and girls can be strong too, Jasmine taught me that money isn't everything, Snow White taught me to accept differences, Ariel taught me redheads can be pretty too, and so on! I think that's pretty positive.

some are better than others. But most of them just seem human(like us) they have their good points(that girls should aspire too or admire) and they have their bad points. But I don't find any of them to be awful role models. Awful role models are the real women celebrities who try to be "perfect" on the outside while ignoring their inside (what really needs to be changed).

In a way, they give girls unrealistic expectations for how their lives are going to be, but at the same time they teach younger girls to follow their hearts and to never give up their dreams.

Everything has both a good and bad message. On one hand, the Disney princesses teach girls to follow good ideas (reading is cool, follow your heart, don't give up on your dreams, money isn't everything, etc.) and give a sense of hope to young girls. On the other hand, they teach girls that instead of doing things just wait for your Prince Charming to come and save you, that beauty is a must, and the unrealistic ideal of a happy ending. To quote Rosalie Hale, "If happy endings existed, we'd all be under gravestones."
