I have seen this somewhere, probably even in this club, “this” being the statement that the best thing about being a woman is the ability to doll yourself up. I must say that I have been completely confused. I cannot understand why anyone would willingly objectify themselves and see it as something to be proud of. And, before you ask, I am not talking about BDSM or any variation thereof, because sexual preferences of consenting adults are absolutely none of my business. :) What I have in mind is making a doll out of yourself on a daily basis. One more thing, I am not trying to belittle or offend those who do so, merely attempting to understand the reasons behind it. Maybe I should have put it into answers section, but it is a bit long, so I have decided to post it as an article.

Firstly, the reason why I consider dolling oneself up a form of objectification is quite obvious – it is, after all, making one look similar to a Barbie doll by the use of make-up and clothes. I do not even want to begin the never ending rant “Why Barbie dolls enforce harmful gender stereotypes”, it would simply take too much time. So, the thing that puzzles me is this: why does anyone wish to look akin to a sexist doll at school, in a work place et cetera? And why do they want to be considered (at least visually) an object rather than a person?

I have heard somewhere that guys like girls who look like that. Please forgive my crude language, but my first reaction was WTF?! Girls, do you like looking like Barbie dolls? Yes? Hmm… I may not understand it, but fine, whatever makes you happy. No? Then why do you? My question is, why would anyone do something she does not like or does not feel comfortable with just because someone finds it attractive? Is it a desperate attempt to get laid?

Constructive criticism as well as an opposite view are very much welcomed. I hope I did not offend anyone. I am sorry if this came out chaotic and unorganised, it is merely because, as I said at the beginning, this issue confuses me.

I am over rape.

I am over rape culture, rape mentality, rape pages on Facebook.

I am over the thousands of people who signed those pages with their real names without shame.

I am over people demanding their right to rape pages, and calling it freedom of speech or justifying it as a joke.

I am over people not understanding that rape is not a joke and I am over being told I don't have a sense of humor, and women don't have a sense of humor, when most women I know (and I know a lot) are really fucking funny. We just don't...
