If I write rants, I'm usually able to control myself and not post them. However, a recent troll user pushed me off the deep end, and now I have to force someone to listen to this one.
I hate elitists.
This is obviously a general statement, but this is the anime spot, so let's narrow it down.
I hate elitist anime fans.
Since I've become a member of the anime fanbase on Fanpop, I've come to realize these people are my least favorite part of anything anime. Here are some examples of these people, in case you don't know what I mean, and how to explain to them why their douchiness is extremely unfair.
"I've seen more anime than you, so I'm more of a fan than you."
Has it ever occured to you that I may have started watching, say, a year ago, while you've practically been watching since you were born?
"I've been watching anime longer than you, therefore I appreciate it more."
Well, excuse me if it took me longer to get into fucking off on the internet. Pardon me for not having an otaku brother/sister. Sorry my parents thought anime was too violent and wouldn't let me watch it as a kid. Just because I started watching it later doesn't mean I don't like it just as much as you.
"I watch anime at a faster rate than you, therefore I'm the better fan."
You probably memorize every line by rote too. Maybe you should try, I don't know, actually enjoying an anime for once?
"I've watched more obscure anime than you have, so I have a better understanding of anime in general than you."
No, you do not understand anime in general more than I, you only understand those specific obscure anime more than I. Because I've never seen them.
"I support the franchise by buying all the DVD's. You don't. What kind of fan are you?"
Okay, under some conditions, I would agree with you. But have you ever heard of circumstances, jerk? Some people can't afford anime; it's kind of *laughs* expensive. Oh, and is buying all of the DVD's really necessary?
Whenever I hear someone say one of these things, or a variation of them, I just want to strangle myself. However, all that was only leading up to my LEAST favorite category of anime fan elitists: Sub/dub elitists. Though I hate both equally, sub elitists are by far more common, so I'm focusing my rage on them.
"Only people who watch anime in sub are true anime fans."
Ugh, nothing is more guaranteed to make me lose it. If you don't like dubs, I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck, but the minute you talk down to other people just because they do, you are way out of line. They aren't lesser anime fans. They only prefer a different version of the same thing you like. Seriously, you don't have anything better to do than troll people because they don't share your preference? That is uncalled for. Your existance is uncalled for.
