Something that bothers me is that nowadays Disney is treating the DP franchise like a fast money tool. Like every female character they make in the movies does directly join the franchise. It bothers me because before it felt like a very exclusive club where only the main 6 were (P and M sometimes), while Meg and the other girls were less value girls, what made the Princesses more elite characters. Now every girl joins it. They should promote them as individuals and then see if they're worth it Posted over a year ago

That's true and also the fact that all the modern Princesses are all tough-I-can-do-it-all-by-myself-types. And I'm so sick of it. They're all feminism 'We-don't-need-a-prince-or-a-man'. Blah, I do miss characters like Cinderella or Wendy Darling. over a year ago

You're right about the DPs now not being exclusive, but just a cash grab. I think the mindset of everything within Disney has changed--- and certainly the value set has. Maybe, one day, we can look back on this and see how far reaching the effects were. over a year ago

Maybe some will know, but in Japan, the DP franchise is formed by only 7 Princesses:(Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Rapunzel)

I really like it and I find it understandable cause at the end they 7 are the more "princessy" looking ones. In fact, they are pretty much the most popular of the 12 group, and the ones that better sell with little girls. Maybe Moana could be added.

The only complain may be the lack of representation but I even so I love the small group. Posted over a year ago

Yes, I prefer this group as well even though I miss Pocahontas. Moana is somewhat popular in Japan and they do make merchandise of her but she does not fit their definition of a princess so she's not included with the other girls. She gets separate merchandise. Pocahontas a film there is popular but the character herself gets very little merch and when she does get it, it's all individual merch. Esmeralda is actually more popular in Japan than the U.S. Mulan is obviously not popular in Japan for being Chinese. Merida isn't that liked so she doesn't really get any merch. Tiana is completely unknown. over a year ago

Thank you for this wonderful bit of information! I never knew this and I'm glad that Fanpop is not only so welcoming and kind to new members and the classic princesses, but also so informative. Japan has very good taste then. But really, Rapunzel is as popular as the first six girls? I could barely get through her movie (it took me almost a decade to do so) and for the longest time, I really thought she was the character from the third Shrek film who was given her own spinoff film. Nothing about her and her film screamed Disney at all. over a year ago
