“What about him?” Artemis asked at lunch.
She had found Becca and had persuaded her to join her at her table. Her friends included Wally West, Roy Harper, and Zatanna Zatara. Becca wasn't found of being the center of attention on her first day at a new school, but she wasn't about to say no.
“Let's see...oh honey you need to find the tricky ones. He is obviously a football player. He is quiet and looks intimidating, but he can be a real sweetheart at times. He isn't good around a lot of people, but tends to stay in the background. Also, he's an amazing student, giving out information most people don't. And it looks like both Cassie and Megan want to be with him, but he doesn't initiate any feelings toward either of them.”
Becca turned back to the others at the table, feeling satisfied with how completely wordless they were. She blushed deeply when Wally opened his mouth and turned to Artemis.
“Where did you find her?”
Artemis laughed and Becca looked down, shaking her head.
“By my locker and I'm keeping her!”
Zatanna laughed now and Becca hid her face.
“What if I want her?” Wally teased.
“You can't have her! Becca is mine!”
“Oh stop. You're embarrassing the poor girl,” Zatanna said.
Becca looked up at her and smiled. She noticed Roy staring at her and turned to look at him. She put her head in her hand, fingers tapping her cheek.
“Let's see. I'd place you, Roy, as another archer. You and Artemis must have some kind of friendly tension between who's the better archer. No doubt you did something that made you regret being president of the archery club so Artemis filled the position. Now you guys try and compete to see who is the better archer, always ending in a draw. You're very good at hiding your emotions, and you get good grades. The problem is, you don't know how to open up to those you care about.”
