Becca looked down, arms dropping to her side. A misty blue smoke rose around her and she spoke again. Her voice was thick with tears.
“I have several enemies who want me killed. I can also teleport to other worlds. So, to not cause you any more pain, I'll leave now. Thank you for everything you've done. Willow will take my place as leader. I will miss you all so much. I love you all. But I love you most, Robin.”
The Boy Wonder watched as the smoke started to fade. A light appeared from inside the boundary and, without thinking, Robin ran into it.
“Robin!”
Somewhere in the Magic Dimension
Becca looked around her. The world was colorful but the buildings seemed almost ancient. Clean and presentable, just old-fashioned. Clouds hung in the sky and the streets seemed empty. Her breath was a mist in the air and birds flew around. Her footsteps made little noise as she turned around.
“Alari.”
Becca took a deep breath and started walking. But a sudden burst of light and a bamfing sound caused her to look back.
“Robin! What are you doing here?” she asked.
“To get you.”
He walked up to her, standing a few inches away. She turned her head away, but his hands captured her cheeks, turning her head to look at him. That's when Becca saw his mask was off.
“Why do you keep running?” he whispered.
Becca opened her mouth as she stared into those breath-taking blue eyes. She let out a small sigh.
“How can I not? You guys do too much for me. I repay you by putting you in danger.”
“Becca, we're superheroes. Danger just naturally follows us. And danger loves to play with you. But no matter what, we're all family. We'll always take care of one another. That's what families do.”
“Not all families, Robin. You're sheltered. In your family life. You have no idea how hard keeping one family is.”
“Maybe but-”
“No. There are no buts this time. Before the Stevens adopted me, I was in fifteen other families. All turned me down. They wouldn't accept me as who I was. And you shouldn't either.”
Becca turned and ran away.
