The loud sound of metal scratching together woke her from sleep. They had found a place between some rocks and just under an alcove so low they had to crawl out. She had been too tired from the day before and now something was happening. She mentally cursed herself before slipping out.
Terror was holding off some kind of psychic blow and the sword he had used lay broken in three pieces. Damn. I miss everything! She stretched before pulling out her own attack. Terror ducked down and rolled over to her before standing again.
“Two attackers. One has strong magic potential. The other has a bit of fear on her side.”
“Great. I'll take magic boy.”
“Duh.”
The two bumped fists before the next attack, not entirely sure why they did. Becca murmured a spell and her body shimmered. Her outfit changed to a navy blue kimono with white flowers. The sides were split from the hip, perfect for fighting. She looked at her opponent.
His hair was black, eyes purely gold. He had a black shirt that exposed his chest; it was tucked into black trousers and he wore black boots like her own. Her eyes narrowed.
“Knew you weren't dead.”
He gave a small smirk and lifted the hood over his head.
“C'mon baby bird. Let's see those skills you claim to have.”
He skidded backwards under her attack, looking at the scratches forming on his arms. Don't let her get in another blow. Or it'll be unleashed for sure. He looked up in time to dodge another attack. He stretched his arm out, enveloping her in his demonic grasp. He slammed her down and was thrown backwards by another blow. He got to his knees and watched her appear through the dust.
Her long silver hair was tied in a pony tail, her black uniform short and form-fitting. Her eyes were blue and held something like sorrowful resignation. The sword at her side had been put away and her skin was oddly white. He looked up at her then down at the ground. She now knelt in front of him.
“I'm sorry.”
“You've been here the whole time.”
She nodded gently and he didn't need to see it to know. His muscles tensed under her touch.
“It's not what you think, *An. “
“No. It's not.”
“I had no choice.”
“You died Lu.”
“Not exactly but...I can't tell you any more.”
“So you've been sent to terminate us.”
“No. Stall.”
He didn't reply, but she knew what was going through his head.
“You can't understand it. We have no choice. And...”
“Hush. I've missed you to.”
She fell into his arms and her tears fell once she felt his arms around her again. She pecked his lips like she'd always done. When they did pull away, he nodded firmly to her.
“Do what you came to do.”
Her eyes filled with regret once more before her fear-poisoned nails dug into his skin. When she saw the fire light in his eyes she pulled away as the real monster took form.
*An is pronounced like Ahn not as in an apple. :)
