Writing Question

In this book that I plan on publishing, should I kill off one of the main character's best friends?

So, I wrote this story a few years ago and it was such a hit with my friends and other people that I decided to re-write it and try to publish it. In the story, one of the main characters, Katrina, goes to save her friend's life, James, from a burning building. Instead of a happy ending and he survives, I let him die. I didn't plan on it, but I thought it would be better drama and less of a clice-ending when all the character's are happy. Now that I'm re-writing it to publish, I was wondering if it would be better for the public if I keep him alive. Or should I keep it how it is?

Do they end up together?

No :[ I considered it for a little while, but I think it'll be better if they have a tight, unbreakable brother/sister relationship. :]

Hm...I don't know...I think It depends on weather or not the reactions of the characters about the death are well written or not...
Otherwise, keep it the same! I love killing off characters and it add in an unexpected sort of twist!

OK thank you! :] I'll try to write it as best as I can! Even back two or three years ago when my writing wasn't as mature as now, some of my friends still cried. So...that's a good sign, in a way, right? :]

Well...Yes, I guess that is a good sign. Mostly. I mean, I've got friends who would cryat nothing in a book, but yeah. *Should* Be a good sign :p

Her best friend is in the story pretty much a lot in part three of it (there are three parts in my novel. part three is that longest i think). And thanks for the song! :]
