Why does everybody write about vampires?

One answer, blame Twilight.

I find vampires (and werewolves and the Fae) to be very interesting. I always have. We have enough lore to be able to give them strengths and weaknesses and have them be recognized easily for what they are, but there's enough mystery to still be creative. Vampires, in general, are very versatile - super strength, super speed means they can be awesome protectors. They feed on humans, which makes them dangerous. They are humanoid, so you can give them human characteristics, but they are also demonized,so you can give them supernatural evil powers.

I guess people write about vampires because it is a topic of interest for readers these days.

Sadly i have no idea, iam writing about a Dhampir (Half-vampire) and that is because i like the mental scars he must have.

But why peopla like vampires so much i have no idea

well now days there are lots of Vampire stories and ppl want to have their ideas about Vampires...it's something new...like power or something.
i wannet to do that but i didn't have any new ideas so i'm writing something normal

Well I dont like the Twilight Saga buuuut I do love the anime/manga Vampire Knight ^___^ Anyway I dont write about Vampires very often lol

I actually haven't written about vampires at all, except for fanfiction. But I think it's because there are so many different ways you can write about vampires, now. So many things are accaptable. I mean, if vampires can sparkle in the sun instead of burning, anything's possible, right? It's just fun to play with all the different possibilities, and see what you can come up with.

*raises hand and waves them rapidly* oh oh oh ME ME ME ME!!!

its Monkey-see Monkey-do. people figure since Twilight got so much positive feedback it will make their book's even better.Same thing with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series,which i happen to adore.

Because we CAN believe in broomstick-riding wizards, phoenixes, centaurs, unicorns, and other fanticy creatures...
but we CAN'T believe that cramming these old mythical creatures into a story could ever be considered original and/or creative!

Well, it is said that you will get more readers if you write about fictional stuff. [Vampires, werewolves, etc,]. Actually, it has not been said, its been showed. I've written about vampires and now people say I'm the next Stephanie Meyer or Nicholas Sparks. [I don't wanna be an author though...]

Because Twilight Was A Huge Hit! So Naturally, Authors Write About Something To Get Them Money! And Maybe These Books Have Been Out For A While! You Just Never Noticed Them Because Twilight Hadn't Made Them Famouse Yet!

Simply because since Twilight girls want to read more romance about "pretty" vampires etc.. and it's starting to bug me, because I prefer things like His Dark Materials, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Inkheart, Septimus Heap etc... simply because they're not all about "Vampire loves human. Human loves vampire. Forbidden. Bleh." they all have their own individual story. Some of them, yes, have been done before, but not entirely. I'm talking like as in going to different worlds etc.. and wizards and magic etc... but they have their own stories, which is what makes them interesting to read.

They are evil and people today love evil.

In a good way, not to sound mean or anything, because I love twilight and other vampire books, but it's just the rage these days. Mythical creatures I guess have a big impact on young-teen to adult minds. Again, thank Stephanie Meyer and her Twilight books for this. :]

it's not necessarily 'not a girl thing'. it's just not YOUR thing. I for one are planning to write three vampire stories, and actually have always wanted to be a vampire.

I believe that it is because Vampires have a mysterious glamor to readers and they are interesting to read. Personally, I wonder why there are so many out as well, but I'm also waiting for a bunch of GOOD ones to come out of the many. So far I have found few of the many that I have really enjoyed.
