So let’s just get this out of the way. Tekken is my favorite fighting game franchise ever. I love playing 3 in the arcades, I had a real fun time looking at the tournaments for Tekken 7, and I can safely say that my favorite so far, the one that really got me invested in the franchise, was Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (That’s some good alliteration)
Tekken follows a simple plot in pretty much every game. The Iron First tournament, or the Tekken tournament, hosted by the president of the Zaibatsu Mishima Organization, Heihachi Mishima, in order to gather the best fighters so Heihachi can use science or demon magic or whatever to gain their strength. Also involved in the fight is the ancient demon, Ogre, the angels of heaven, and a mysterious figure known as Unknown (Creative). Already starting off, this games roster is huge, with over fifty characters for you to choose from. Some of my mains to play as are Asuka, the fast fighter type, Steve the boxer, the heavy Heihachi, and the karate master Beck. But that doesn’t mean I won’t try out other characters. This game has a ton of characters for you to play with, both with different personalities and different movesets entirely. It’ll be easy for you to find a character you love more than others. But just because you learn your mains move set, that doesn’t mean you can win all fights. Now you gotta learn your opponents move set. The fights in this game feel less like a fight and more like a dance. With the different speed of punches and the weight of each and every character, you gotta move around and hit your enemies, dodge, block and time your hits just right. Every punch has force, every time you fall to the ground, you feel the weight of your character, and feel the impact from each punch in this game. And when you manage to get a juggle going, getting constant hits as the enemy is in the air, left to your mercy, it’s the most satisfying thing in the world. And the endings in this game are amazing and I can’t get enough of them. They are stylish with different ways of presenting them, from puppet art to comic book to so much more. The endings can range from real heavy and sad to being real hilarious. I just can’t get enough of this game, I tell you.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 may not be the greatest Tekken game in the world (I’ll say it is, fight me), but damn, was it a tight entry into the series. I have still yet to play every game in the series, but I’m really excited to try out Tekken 7, even if Negan’s entry into the series is… odd, to say the least.
