Vampire Diaries Books Question

In the "Shadow Souls" Damon says that the story (of him and Stefan) gets told and retold but everyone misses something. Any theory of what that might be?

Chapter 34.
"There is something everyone has missed you know. About the archetypal story of how two brothers killed each other simultaneously and became vampires because they dallied with the same girl.
[...]
There is something you all missed. Ha. Maybe even Stefan has missed it. The story gets told and retold but no one catches it"

I think it's the fact that both of them(Stefan and Damon) fall for the same girl. Five centuries ago they both fell for Katherine and now they fall for Elena. It's my opinion. =)

Maybe its the simalarity to Camalott, as mentioned in Midnight. How Arther and Lancelot fall for Gwen and this almost/does kill them.
