I'm pretty sure he's Laurent. They have said that an African American was cast for Laurent so it makes sense.

was Laurent african american in the book? idk. i heard that too, charmedangel88, thats the only reason i put laurent up there as a choice. :)

In the books he wasn't African American. He was French if I recall correctly with olive skin. But I think they made him African American to add some diversity to the film or he was just the best actor for the part.

Yeah, he does look creepy. The more I think about it the more I think that they cast him because he was the best for the part, colorblind casting might have been done for Laurent since he isn't a major character.

Alice24, there have been rumors that they cast and African American as Laurent. Laurent is supposedly black in the movie and has armpit length dreads. It's a possibility that he was cast. There is such a thing as color-blind casting where they pick whoever is best for the role. Since Laurent isn't really a huge character I can understand them changing him.
