This and I think that it gives the story more dimension. If the entire series was just Edward, Bella, and vampires, I think it would get a little stale (no matter what the werewolf haters say).

For Bella just to have Edward will be kind of pointless.What would it be like if Jacob is not a wolf?He'll be just like another Mike or Tyler.No competitions what so ever.No connection to anything except that he like Bella.

Yeah I agree. Stephenie made Jacob a werewolf because it made it more interesting and Jacob had to be unique just like Edward. He couldnt just be himself. He had no real chance. She's suppose to live in the supernatural world. What better than have a supernatural world with a big love triangle. Plus they're enemies. Two boys fighting for Bella's love and against each other.
