Chapter two (enjoy!)

My mom was waiting to pounce when I got in the door.
“Have you been out with the Clearwater’s again?” She snapped as soon as I was in the door. I mentally noted the open bottle of Vodka on the kitchen table and the glass next to it.
“Yeah. Sorry mom.” I said automatically. That was nearly all I said to her these days.
She tutted loudly “I hope you and Leah aren’t too serious.” I stared at her in shock. It felt like a cold shower.
“Me and… Leah?” I blushed more deeply than normal, out of disgust. “Err mom me and Seth and Leah Clearwater are just good friends.” I said trying to shuffle past her.
She narrowed her eyes but seemed to believe me. She grabbed her coat off the hook, and pulled it on before checking her lipstick in the hall mirror.
“Where you going mom?” I asked anxiously, while admiring my feet.
“Oh, Billy Black invited me over.” She smiled “Haven’t seen him for years.” My mouth feel open. She saw my expression and rolled her eyes. “I’ll be back at err … well before midnight anyway. Bye Embry.” She blew me a kiss before slamming the door in my face. I sighed and picked up the receiver of the phone and dialed the familiar number.
“Hi.” Quil said too loudly down the phone.
“Hi Quil. It’s Embry, err do you mind if I come over? My moms gone out.” I hated inviting myself over, but I hated being alone in this house more. Then I added “Is that ok? Are you with Claire?”
There was a pause. “I’m sorry Embry. I know who you feel being around me and Claire. I could take her home if you want?” He sounded so sad saying the last sentence that I couldn’t say yes.
I took a deep breath, and clenched my hands to stop them shaking. I reminded myself that I was the loyal friend who wouldn’t mind if their friend was too busy to see them. “No that’s fine Quil, you stay with Claire. She obviously all that’s important.” I said acidly. Then I felt bad so added “I’ll go hang out with Seth or just stay here.”
“Thanks Embry. Me and Jake’ll make it up to you. Hey why don’t we go to a strip club, find you someone to imprint on?” Quil joked. I chuckled.
“I would Quil, but are you sure they’d let you in? Me and Jake they’d believe but your just a little on the…short side…” I said innocently. I held the receiver away from my ear, while Quil replied. Claire was sure gonna have a foul mouth if nothing else when she was older.
“Bye Quil.” I said before hanging up quickly. Then I slowly dialed the Clearwater’s number.
“Hi Clearwater’s Residence.” Leah’s voice greeted me. She reminded me of her dad a lot sometimes.
“Hi Leah.” I said cheerily “Its Embry can I talk to Seth please?”
“Oh” was all she said before going to find Seth. I wounded the phone cord round my fingers. I hated calling people.
“Hi Embry!” Seth’s chirpy voice made me jump.
“Hi Seth, listen are you busy now?” I asked hesitantly.
“Nope. Do you want to come over here?” He asked excitedly.
“Err I was wondering if you wanted to come to mine. My mom’s out. Do you want to help me clean up my dirt bike? I could let you have a quick ride.” I could almost hear Seth’s excitement.
“Super awe-some. I’ll be right over!” He hung up before I could say anything more. At first it’d felt odd hanging out with Seth, but now it was normal.
I was just going to the kitchen to get us some snacks ready, when there was a sharp knock at the door. I jumped, nearly dropping the box of cookies I was holding.
“Wait a sec!” I yelled, rushing over to the door. When I opened it I almost didn’t recognise who it was.
“Vampire girl?" I squinted at her, remembering my old nickname for her.
“Oh hi Embry.” The beautiful vampire Bella said in her sickly sweet voice. “Sorry to bother you but have you seen Jake anywhere?” She looked dead worried.
