Charlie’s POV

I sat watching the game. Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were leading by 2 points and they were in the 8th ending. I was trying to keep my mind off of Bella and her boyfriend Edward. Bella is too young to have a boyfriend if you ask me. I didn’t want her to have a boyfriend until she’s at least in college. I must just be talking from a father’s point of view. No father wants to see his little girl grow up.
Well, I didn’t like Edward Cullen so much anymore. Ever since my little girl went into a depression, I’ve never been fond of him as I use to be.
Just then, the phone rang interrupting my thoughts. I answered it.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Hey, Charlie. It’s Billy. You watching the Red Sox game?”
“Sure am. Can you believe finally, the Cubs just might win a game?” I said chuckling.
“I never thought I’d see the day,” he said.
“So what’s your boy up to tonight?” I asked.
“Oh, he’s over at the Cullen’s place visiting Bella. Didn’t Bella tell you Jacob was going over there.”
“No, she didn’t. Maybe too busy. That poor thing has been working her butt off to pull her grades back up. Ever since her……Well you know,” I said.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. How’s she doing?” Billy asked.
“She’s doing a lot better. Surprisingly, she came out with straight A’s. I was real happy for her. We’re hoping she can get into some good schools. Get her out of this small town, you know?” I said.
“Yeah. Charlie, you’re not doing that so she can get rid of that boyfriend of hers, are you?” Billy said laughing.
“No. Actually, Edward has been the one bringing over all these applications for Bella. Do you know what school that boy wants her to go to?” I asked.
“No, what?” Billy asked.
“Schools like Dartmouth, Harvard, University of Alaska, and some other big fancy schools,” I said.
“Wow. He must really want her to get a good job when she graduates.”
“Yeah. The only problem is if we’re going to have the money for it,” I said.
“Yeah, well you shouldn’t worry about that. That’s what student loans and scholarships are for,” he said.
“Yeah, she’s got some scholarships alright,” I said.
“Oh man! Did u just see that grand slam?” Billy suddenly boomed.
“Oh man, yes I did! Looks like the Cubs are definitely going to win. So much for the Sox’s perfect games. Their going to lose this one,” I said.
“Yeah, tell me about it,” Billy said.
“Okay, so back to our children. How’s Jacob doing? I mean with the whole fights at school and everything?” I asked.
Jacob had been getting into a couple of fights at school lately. Some of the teens there were picking on the Cullens and Jacob and his friends had stuck up for them. I was glad Billy and them finally trusted the Cullens. Ever since Jacob broke his arm and leg in a motorcycle accident, they’ve started trusting the Cullens.
“Oh, he’s doing good. His leg hasn’t been bothering him anymore. Which is good. Dr. Cullen said his bone healed really good. And fast.”
“That’s good. I bet he’ll think twice about speeding down a curvy, wet highway again,” I said chuckling.
“Yeah, hopefully,” Billy said.
“Yeah, I nearly had a heart attack when Jacob told me that Bella was riding on a motorcycle. But she didn’t complain about her punishment so I let her off early,” I said.
“Yeah. She’s a teenager. She was just having fun. You shouldn’t be so hard on her. I always make sure Jacob has a helmet on when he rides his bike,” Billy said chuckling.
“Yeah, I guess I’m just an overprotective father,” I said laughing.
Just then I heard a beep on the other line.
“Hold on, Billy. I got another beep. It’s probably Bella complaining about her party. Just one second,” I said laughing.
“Okay. Oh, hey, Jake,” I heard Billy say talking away from the phone.
“Hey, Dad. I need to talk to you now,” I hear Jacob say in the background.
“Okay, Charlie. Let me see what he wants while you’re getting that other call,” Billy said chuckling.
“Okay,” I said. I hit the flash button as the phone beeped again. “Hello?” I asked.
“Charlie, it’s Edward,” I heard Edward say. He sounded sad and depressed. Uh-oh. I didn’t like the sound of this.
“What’s wrong, Edward?” I asked suddenly tensed.
“It’s Bella.”
“What about Bella. Tell me now!” I said. Okay, now I was freaking out. Edward sad and depressed about Bella meant something bad happened.
“She’s been kidnapped,” he said.
