Twilight Series Question

i want to know why edward cullen(twilight) came back from rebellious years ?

i am new here and i am not much of a Twilight fan but i like the character Edward Cullen (not only for looks) specially after reading Midnight Sun.....i know the real reason for Edward's return is remorse over murders he did but why did he feel that remorse?....he wasn't killing innocent and was actually doing a good job by finishing criminals so why did he left and came back to Cullens (not that i mind much)...i did not find much explanation of this in book so thought someone here might tell me....thanks in advance :-)

he came back because even though he was killing the criminals, they were still people and he could read their minds just before killing them and he didn't want to be a monster anymore, which is how he always thought himself to be,and by coming back to Carlisle and Esme and going back to the "vegeterian"lifestyle it made him feel like less of a monster.I hope that answers your question.By the way,Edward is my fave character too(along with Bella and Alice)

He could hear his victims' thoughts as he killed them and could see the monster they saw him as. At first he was telling himself that it balanced out because they were murderers, but later that stopped being enough.
