What was your response to Stephen King's comments on Twilight?

He said 'Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good'.

And I completely agree with him.

If it's true, why does she currently have millions and best selling books?

That statement is false.

It's not a false statement, it's an opinion. He also went on to name other best selling authors who he disliked the writing style of: Erle Stanley Gardner and James Patterson

^Never heard of them, and I know it's not a statement, but I couldn't find the word to fit into there.

That was really rude of him to say. And besides, it's a matter of perspective. I personally really like her writing style. And I've read books where I thought the writing was terrible, yet lots of other people thought it was good.

His comment is completely tasteless and rude, and if she couldn't write, then how did she get published in the first place, or get millions of fans, hmm?

It's not rude though - he was stating his opinion that he didn't like Meyer's writing, just as you are saying you do. He also named a few other authors whose writing isn't all that good, and are still successful. Writing ability and success levels aren't in direct correlation.

I never cared. I've never liked him as a person either way.
I don't take anything he says that has nothing to do with his own books very seriously.

Even though I think he acts like an arrogant jerk, he does have a point. Stephenie Meyers is NOT a good writer, but that doesn't mean that her books don't keep people interested. Twilight is aimed at Pre-Teen/Teen Girls of THIS generation, and most like Romance and the thought of the perfect boyfriend and whatnot. So, even though she isn't the greatest writer, she still keeps the Romance in check and makes sure things are interesting.

He never said twilight didn't keep people interested, just that he though she wasn't a good writer.

He said more than this. Really awful things if you ask me...
He obviously dislikes (i don't like the word "hates") Twilight , but ... why should i response to Stephen King? It's his opinion and even though i disagree i am smart enough to accept it. The fact that he said those things doesn't mean they are true! :)
It annoys me when Twilight Haters "use' Stephen King's words to "prove" that Twilight is not good. I really cannot understand why King must always be right! He has his own taste on books and he didn't like Twilight, ok, but that doesn't mean that the Twilight story and its characters are not good, only because he said it!
For example: Do you know Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen? Both of them are 2 of the greatest women authors on the planet. Did you know that Bronte hated Austen? She believed that Austen was an uneducated, shallow girl whose work was rubbish. What i want to say is that S.kings's opinion has the same value as Bronte's opinion, as your opinion, as everyone's opinion. Let's be honest, i (we) have my own opinion, my own beliefs and Stephen King's opinion is not so important for me compares to mine! :D
So... him saying that Twilight "is not so good" didn't really change my mind about how i feel for him or Twilight . I read the books I LIKE and not the books other people like. I read Twilight and i liked it NOT because King said it was a good novel to read but because i wanted to read it! Sorry Stephen but your words can't really effect me. :)

p.s. sorry for my mistakes, i am not American.
