What are your thoughts when people say that Stephenie Meyer has completely destroyed the image of the vampire?

To me those people are the kind of person who does not accept the changes and evolution. you can say that she ruined the vampires, but you may also say that she revolutionized the vampires. Her vampires are not like the original in almost any aspect, but that does not mean they are not cool. What I mean is that just because something is different it doesn't mean it sucks. And why would she write about something that already exists? people should think Stephenie is a revolutionary and a great writer who was not content to write one more story of vampires.

When people say that SMeyer has destroyed the image of the vampire, I say "I know, right?".

Honestly, you can't call sparkling bloodsuckers vampires. You call them Meyerpires. There's a huge difference. Vampires are the traditional lore and norm, Meyerpires share hardly anything in common and are hardly vampires at all.

Just my opinion.

•Fall in love because a Mary-Sue smells good. They eat that Mary-Sue.

Twilight was bad fanfiction written by a middle-aged woman who dreams about 17 year olds.
The Characters are abusive, stupid, sexist, pedophiles and never seem to adapt.
Anyone who reads Twilight and likes it really needs to think the series over again.

Well, I have to say I do understand how they feel. I mean, let's face it. Sparkling vampires aren't the classic, cool original bloodthirsty ones. But perhaps the unique aspects of Twilight vampires is what makes them just as awesome as Dracula and Nosferatu :)

Well, I really don't care, everyone can pick its favorite kind of vampire. I like Meyer's vampires more than Ban Stoker's Dracula or Nosferatu, but all of them are fantasy creatures and imagination can create an infinite number of them,so, if anyone really knows a true vampire, well, tell us how it really looks like.
The vampire of the picture is the only one I really know.

there is all kinds of different vampires this is just her version-it really doesn't matter

to be completely honest. I ignore them. Because, in her particular story that she writes, they just happen to be vampires. They're people trying to atone, or trying to become something better. They could be some other mythical creature, but it doesn't matter. It's not about what they are, it's about what they do with what they are given with. If they were fairies, then they would find something to do with their special gift. haha. Her story, just happens to contain vampires. Yeah, it doesn't go by the classic mythology, but does it really matter? She doesn't focus on what they are. She focuses on what they do. That's what matter. :)

When people say that Stephenie Meyer completely destroyed the image of the vampire, I think all that she changed was minor details. I have seen other vampires not drink human blood and opt for animal instead. Example: Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Also, Angel did fall in love with Buffy--a human.
There are many variations of the vampire tale. Some descend from bats, some don't like garlic. Isn't change good? It helps keep things fresh and exciting.
Who are we to set boundaries for Stephenie's imagination, or anyone else's imagination either?

I think that idea is ridiculous, and there are other vampire stories in which the vampire is not an evil, blood sucking murderer who only comes out at night to prey on people. In the tv series Moonlight (which USA stupidly canceled, because it was a great show, and I wish Sci Fi would pick it up and run new episodes, but... )Mick is a vampire who works with and lives around humans, and he gets his blood from the blood bank. The story is somewhat similar because he has feelings for a human woman who knows his secret. These people that criticize Stephenie Meyer's Twilight vampires are not open to new ideas and they only believe in stereotypes. I think her work is awesome and nobody is making them read the books or watch the movies.

Plus, Stephenie features some traditional vampires, friends of Jaspers, Maria and Charlotee and her husband, the vampires in Italy, in Breaking Dawn, when all the vampires congregate at the Cullens'. some of them are not all "vegetarians", just their friends in Alaska. And least of all, James, Victoria, and Laurent are not people friendly. The Cullens are special and they make the story significant.

Yes, I know that its her own creation and that vampires from other stories and novels are different from Meyer's vampires and that because its her world so vampires can be how she wants them to be. But, she's still labelled them as vampires. So, whenever you read another story about vampires, ull always think back to meyer's sparkly vampires.

i wasn't interested at all in vampires before so she didn't destroy me any vampire image... she just made me enter a fictional world full of love, romance, adventure... nobody ever said that the facts described by the books were real and nobody believed in them as normal!

Well, I think there right. I mean don't get me wrong, I like Twilight, but I like the traditional vamps better.

i guess i can understand why people might feel that way, but vampires arent even real- so they can be what ever stephanie meyer wants them to be.

I dont think StephMeyer has destroyed the image of vampires. I think she's just took vampires and looked them from a different angle. As far as im concernd, she's improved em. I didnt like vampires. They freekd me out. they scared me. I think this version of vampires is more realistic. and i just want to thank Stephenie Meyer for givin me sumthin that i rlly lyk. i had neva had my own obssesions before. i just went along with my bruvas. But now, i hav my own. and im rlly enjoyin it. and i want to thank stephenie meyer for givin me images of fit, vamps to dream of. twilight has given me hope that tru luv iz real and there is a person out there for evryone. Even if they are a vampire, a werewolf or even a troll!! does it matta??? as long as u hav luv, the rest of the world dont matta.

I don't think she has destroyed the image of vampires. Vampires are mythological or watever, so she portrayed them the way she wanted them to be. She kept the basic idea of the vampire (bloodsuckers) and transformed it into a story where the world thinks the regular stuffs about vampires but they're really something else. It was a way of making her story new instead of another regular vampire romance. My opinion. =D

I think that Stephanie has given Vampires a different, more romantic take... Why not? They are beautiful creatures and not necessarry do they have to be blood sucking killers...
When I first saw Twight Light, I could feel Bella and Edward's chemistry, inner struggles, and above everything their uncondicional yet dangerous love...

the so called "vampire" has had a role in human mythos for over 1000 years in many different cultures.
the term vampire didn't appear until the 1700's.
but over the years there has been many incarnations in different works of fiction.

you can't ruin somethings image unless it had an image.

she has. it's set a new record for what vampirism is and "true life" has jack shit to do with it. it's about the LEGENDS. vampires are fantasy, but you can't go around changing it and disrespecting the traditional stories. it is no longer vampirism. she could call it something else if she wanted to be so god damn creative. now all these fan girls are in love with a new type of mythical creature. it's an insult to call them vampires.

Personally, I like her version of what vampires are like more than anything else that have read or watched about them.

All vampire movies and books are different, changed a little in someway.
For example, in the movie Van Helsing they can transform into bat-like creatures, as where in the 1995 movie Interview with the Vampire, they can't.

S.M. has just created her version a little different, too.

It really annoys me when people run Twilight down.

it makes me mad, cuz i totally disagree!! i never liked vamps until twilight and now im obsessed with em...especially edward!!! <3 stephanie made vampires awesome and sexy, rather than just weird and creepy. Sure it's different, but i personally like it better.

Personally if vampires do exist I'm glad there are some who don't kill humans. And it actually makes sense that they sparkle in the sun instead of turn to ashes. I noticed that my human skin gives off an extremely faint glitter effect in the sun. And if you bring everything with you into vampire life to be magnified, well of course you'd get the full blown sparkle as a vampire. Turning to dust just doesn't make sense. Vampires are immortal, nothing can harm them, and now the sun's gonna kill them? No. I'd say Stephanie Meyer presented the most realistic idea for vampires. Go Twilight!!!!!!!!!!
