Twilight Series Question

Why Bella, Jessica and Angela name between them as "guys"?

Guys is for men, no? But in the Twilight movie I've heard Bella and Angela talk between the three of the as guys.

Ex:
Bella presenting Jacob to Jessica and Angela in La Push Beach: Guys, this is Jacob.

Ex(2):
Angela: Guys, I’m going to the prom with Eric. I just asked him. I took control.
Why Bella, Jessica and Angela name between them as "guys"?

I live in the UK and I think we do it also - my friends and I do it, people said it at school in groups... perhaps it was first Americans and then we picked it up.

Dragonclaws said:
There was an episode of Full House in which one of the girls was hanging out with "cool kids" who called each other "guys". When the Olson girl said something like "hey, we aren't guys", the other girls gave her a look and then continued with their conversation. So, I'm guessing it's relatively recent slang that may not have migrated to your country.
