I stared blankly at the screens. Me! He means me! I nearly fainted. When we got back to the Justice Building here in the Capitol, I went up on the roof. I wasn’t alone. “So, when did ever since you can remember start?” I asked Trent. “Well, when we were 5, my dad told me that he used to like your mom. But she fell for a coal miner that when he sang, even the mockingjays would quiet down to listen. When you sang for the class that same year, the birds did stop to listen. So basically, that’s when it started.” He replied. “Who did you think that I liked?” I asked him. “Isn’t Duncan your boyfriend? You hang out with him a lot.” He answered. “He is NOT my boyfriend!” I yelled, overreacting like I usually did when it came to competition. “So, did you make any allies yet? Heard you got in with the Careers.” He asked. “Yeah, well, actually I’m in an alliance with Lexi and Gwen from 11 and we got through a weak spot to the Careers so we could kill them all off. But Bridgette isn’t half bad. Neither are some of the others. Both from 3 are with them, too and they’re both pretty cool. It’s Heather I’m watching for. She’s nice to the eye and will sweet talk you into thinking she is nice. But really, I bet she’s like a snake.” I answered. We talked for a little longer and I kicked a small rock off the edge of the roof. It bounced right back up. “Huh?” I questioned. “There’s a force field around the building so tributes can’t commit suicide by jumping off the building.” Trent answered. “Oh.” I spoke, “Goodnight."

We were all in the arena. On either side of me were Gwen and Lexi. One step off of out metal plates and they’ll be scraping us off the ground. Gwen and Lexi both gave me thumbs ups and about 8 plates down, Trent winked at me. On one side of the arena was a thick forest that Dawn seemed petrified about and on the other side was a lake. In the middle of the plates was the Cornucopia, where there would soon be a bloodbath where half of us would die already. I wouldn’t be one of them. We were all given back our tokens and my mockingjay pin was on my heat trapping black sweatshirt, identical to the ones of all the other tributes. We wore black pants and green tunics underneath the jackets. The gong was hit and we all sprang to the Cornucopia. I managed to grab one of the two silver bows but there was only one quiver full of golden arrows and Jared grabbed it practically from my hands. I found an empty duffel bag, which I stuffed with some food and a canteen of water and some knives. Noah and Owen were both already dead at the bloodbath. I raced to grab a large pack and head to the woods, where most of the Careers were headed. I heard Bridgette scream but she hadn’t been hurt. “No!” I heard her shouting to whoever. Then she grabbed a knife and stabbed the boy from 6, Harold. He was dead and Bridgette was filled with rage. I was fighting with the boy from 9, Ezekiel, for the pack and when I was about to bolt, his grip loosened and he fell. A knife was lodged in his back. I could see Heather farther back with a dozen knives. “Thanks.” I said. “No problem.” She answered. Then we raced to find the other Careers. Her token was a necklace with a sort of symbol carved into the wooden circle on the chain. When we found them, they were in a clearing setting up a temporary camp. I found a good branch and took out one of my knives from the duffel bag and began to make the tip sharp to make an arrow. I found a way to attach some mockingjay feathers and shot a tree with it with my bow to see how good it worked. I got it right where I aimed it. I pulled the arrow out of the tree and shoved it in the duffel bag. I walked over to Lexi and Gwen. “So, when do we break free?” I asked. “When the Careers split up in the finals.” Gwen replied. “Ok. I can see if anyone’s coming from the trees. I’ll shoot them with my arrow.” I spoke. I climbed into a tree and used the binoculars that I found in the pack. There were also really cheap sunglasses that blurred my vision. The sun was setting on the day. When night fell, I stayed in the tree to see who had died. The bloodbath was pretty tame this year. Only Noah, Owen, Ezekiel, Harold, and Geoff were dead. I’m surprised more weren’t dead with Bridgette’s rampage. I came down from the tree after the anthem played to see if Bridgette was still crying. She was. “Bridgette, what happened?” I asked. “I can’t go on. In this pre-Games Careers meeting, I kinda hooked up with Geoff. And now he’s dead. That’s why I went on that rampage.” She replied. “I’m sorry.” I said, giving her a hug. She hugged me, too and soon, she smiled for the first time since her rampage. I remembered hearing the 5 cannons go off, signaling that someone was dead. Not far off, I saw a fire going, but it wasn’t our fire. I looked closer and saw the girl and boy from 8, Jared and Lindsay, sitting by it. I had talked to all the tributes on the train to the arena, and Jared told me that whenever you think your heart is right, it’s wrong. Apparently he doesn’t really like the idea of canon couples. Canon is the actual couple opposed to fanon, a fan-made couple. Also, that night I learned that Penny’s parents had taken her to the Capitol when she was 14 and she had gotten some sort of surgery that made it so bird wings would pop out of her back and she could fly. And to prove it, she jumped up and flew around for me. The next morning, I found that Penny and Heather were going on a killing spree. The first to go were the pair from 8, who had given themselves away with their fire. Before the Capitol could scoop up the bodies of the boy and girl, I grabbed the quiver full of arrows, but left the bow because the string was missing. I had my own bow anyway. I heard their cannons go off. Before we decided to move camp to the lake, two more cannons went off.
