When u make a video for like based on a part of a show (like taking a part when lindsay stucks the finger) or something....dont u take a video and edit or wat???

Like im making a tdi linsay's tribute video and insted of just putting pics and music for it, how do u make it with just putting bits of pieces from shows like tdi?
dont u edit or go on like a media type of thing to do this whole thing????
