The Trix: Overrated Or Underrated?

The Winx Club villains: overrated or underrated? Most people on here would say that they were overrated, and that characters such as Bloom need more attention than Icy or Valtor. But some other people, think they're underrated, and deserve more credit than people give them. In this article, I will put myself on both sides of the discussion and help you decide which side in the end you will chose.

The Main Villains Should Be Added In All Winx Related Picks

~ For: I agree with this side, more than the opposing. I mean, you should at least include the Trix in your Winx picks. They've been in three seasons, and in a movie. Without them, there wouldn't even be a "Winx Club" series. Same way goes for Valtor, Darkar and The Wizards. Without them, there wouldn't be a good plot for seasons two, three and four. Though, I'd understand why you wouldn't want to include the extra male bad boys in your picks, at least include the Trix. There are as many fans of those bad witches that there are of the Winx girls.

~ Against: Most fans of just the girls, would think adding the bad guys to their picks, would just be pointless. In some ways, it is. Adding three more options would mean more work, and with the little thought of no one really picking them, than what's the point of adding them? Besides, if it's a pick about the girls, why should I add them?

There The Bad Guys, Why Should I Like Them?

~ For: Why should I like them? There are plenty of good guys for me to love, why should I give a crap about the bad guys. They also lose, and the Winx always win. I don't think it's that hard to see that choosing to hate the bad guys was a good idea. You're favorite character always ends up being OK, (No matter what's happened to them) they always win in the end, and everything always ends happily for them. Why should I put my hopes and love for a character I know will lose and always go somewhere horrible in the end?

~ Against: Like I said earlier, without the 'bad guys', there wouldn't be any plots for the series. And anyways, if you didn't like the bad guys they made, of course the creators would have thoughts up some other corny evil villains to always lose. But come on, let's face it: The bad guys usually have personalities that more people can relate to. I highly doubt anyone who watches the show is a complete nerd, or a shy little nature huger. Let's face it, with the stuff we have in out society, it's no big surprise you're all a little nasty in attitude and have higher expectations than normal.

Bad Guys Need Love Too. Don't You Agree?

~ For: Yes, I do agree. Of course you're obvious answer would be 'no' with some bullshit rambling on how they always lose, bladi bladi blah. It doesn't matter to us bad guy lovers, because we knew in the beginning that they would lose anyway. In all kids shows, the evil always loses, and the good always prevails but that didn't stop us from falling in love with the evil characters. Half the time, they were going to win but then the creators had to make some 'good and prevailing' shit up so they could win. Like, with Valtor for example: He COULD have taken over the Universe, and he COULD have won. But, no. Bloom just HAD to figure out about the water stars and just HAD to earn her Enchantix. Psh, bitch please. I'm telling you, if that situation was put into real life, Valtor would have already capped her ass.

~ Against: No they don't. Like I said before, they always lose. Why should they get any love? They're E-V-I-L! No bad guys should get the love, only good guys. You know the good guys will win, so why even bother to put hope into even liking the bad people? That's just a waste of my time, and your time to explain why you like them so much. You can't help that the good guys prevail, they always do and always will. Nothing you can do about it.

The Trix Are Better Than Bloom. Doi.

~ For: I personally, really couldn't give to shits about Bloom. *Looks up, and sees that this article is listed as an opinion.* She's annoying, and overrated. The Trix on the other hand, are funny and don't receive the attention they truly deserve. Without them, there wouldn't be a season one, two or three. Without them, precious little Bloom would have never earned her Winx, or learned about her powers. Bloom ows them, big time. And sending them to Omega and that creepy little peaceful dungeon, was not what I call a "Thank You".

~ Against: Bloom is better than the Trix. She's kicked their ass four times, and she can do it again. I really don't see what you're trying to prove here. She can beat them any day, and has more fans than those dumb woman will ever have. Yeah, owe them. Please, don't make me laugh. She earned her Winx by believing in herself, and her friends helped her figure about the Dragon Fire. They got what they deserved. And, why should I like them? Bloom will always be there to put them in there place, so why should I bother even giving a damn about them?

Bloom Is Not Overrated. Icy, Valtor and Darcy Are The Ones Who Are Overrated.

~ For: Of course she isn't overrated. She's the main character, she needs the attention. Without Bloom, there wouldn't be a "Winx Club", there wouldn't even be a plot. Give her the respect she deserves, and stop wasting your time by dissing on her. No one really cares, as long as I love Bloom, I'm fine.

~ Against: HA HA! Bitch please, you're killing me! You don't see people making whole websites on the bad guys do you? No, you see whole sites dedicated only to Bloom, or the Winx girls. Bloom has to be one of the most overrated characters on the show. I have absolutely no IDEA why she is so popular. She's annoying, she whines, she gets EVERYTHING handed to her, and everything always goes right for her. "She lost her powers, oh boohoo!" Don't worry sweetheart, you'll get them right back! "I can't earn my Enchatix, I don't have my parents to save!" Tsk tsk sweety! You'll earn it some other way! (Like you always do) "Oh no, the witches are going to destroy the tree of life! We can't get to them in time!" Save the dramatic for later you bitch, everything turns right for you in the end. "Sky, we can't marry! You're father and I are enemies..." LAYLA'S BOYFRIEND DIED SAVING YOUR ASS! You get married anyways, so WHY THE HELL ARE YOU COMPLAINING?! *Rolls eyes*

Well that concludes my article, and I want to finish by stating that I find the villains to be HORRIBLY underrated. In almost every other series I like, the villains are ADORED. I don't see why it's so hard for you all to like both bad and good. I like Tecna, Roxy and Musa, but I also like Icy, Darcy and Valtor. Not that hard to like both sides. Hoped you liked this article, and please DO NOT LEAVE ANY RUDE COMMENTS. (I will be coming after yo' ass if you do.)

SilentForce I think that the main problem I have with the Winx Club villains is that they have no background stories.In Sailor Moon,Pretear,Magic Knight Rayearth,Mermaid Melody,Wedding Peach,W.I.T.C.H and even Angel's Friends(an average show that I consider as a cheap winx club ripoff) almost all of the villains have a reason for being evil in Winx Club the writers pretty much follow the fairy tale logic that "evil people are just evil for no valid reason".In my opinions this is what makes Winx Club inferior to other anime/tv shows from the magical girl genre.

I'm glad that they are some fans who write gritty and dark stuff for this fandom, because I know I'll never get anything remotely dark in the show anymore (especially now with which the direction it is now going) @RomyMermaid: That's cool. fire_dragon77 Overrated especially the Trix.Why do people even like the Trix?The only good thing that they ever did was summoning the army of rot and decay but they were still stupid enough to not use it to attack planets instead of stupid schools.Winx Club has by far the lamest and most stupid villains that were ever created.In fact the only good Winx Club villains are Valtor and The Wizards of The Dark Circle. The Ancestral Witches were also good villains from the past.The only villains that are lamer than Winx villains are Team Rocket from Pokemon.

Sass aside, of course they aren't going to be super crazy and badass, Winx is a children's show. I saw your original stuff on the "Winx vs W.I.T.C.H" spot, fire_dragon, and I can tell you're not a fan of the show. What's it with people always coming on here to hate something they clearly [b]don't[/b] like? It doesn't make sense to me. That's like if I spent my time and energy into listening to music by "Nickelback" or "Train" even though I know they're stuff is garbage and the lyrics they write are so laughably bad--just so I could find a couple fans and tell them what I think. It's just a waste. They're "lame" because the show is for much younger audiences. Sorry if Winx Club--a show about [b]fairies[/b] and [b]friendship[/b] isn't as gory as the animes you're obviously in favor of. I honestly never see how Winx can even be put into the same ball park as shows like "Fairy Tale". They're completely different. What's connecting them, magic? By that logic, you guys should be making all these polls towards the Harry Potter fans or the Lord of the Rings fans or the Inheritance fans. The same goes towards Pokémon. Team Rockets three members we're most acquainted with, Jessie, James, and Meowth, are supposed to just be funny and silly guys who run around just trying out hair brained and ridiculous schemes to catch Pokémon--the most intimidating and complex villains come from the head of other organizations or from the movies. The anime is light and cheery, as all other forms of Pokémon can get rather dark at times (whether it be the games or the manga).

fire_dragon77 When did I put Winx Club in the same category as Fairy Tail?I never did.Anyways,the fact that the Trix are lame villain can't be justified with the fact that Winx Club is a show for children.Disney is a family entertainment company but still have good villains in their movies like Frollo,Shan Yu,Scar,Maleficent,The Horned King,Ursula,Jafar etc and out of all of them Frollo is the only one people have complained about.Even the similar and equally as bad Angel's Friends tv show that is also for children has a much better villain that was almost successful at enslaving all of humanity.Another thing that doesn't make sense about your"The trix are lame because they are from a children show"logic is that The Wizards Of Dark Circle are also from the same show and yet they were badass enough to capture and imprision every fairy on Earth,steal their magic and cut off their wings.The Ancestral Witches also were badass enough to destroy an entire planet.

lovebaltor You obviously don't like the Trix. That's your opinion. But these villains from other seasons or even movies that you keep bouting as better than the witches, aren't that much better. The Wizards [i]did[/i] imprison all the earth fairies, but they get the crap beat out of them by a first-year fairy [Roxy] who even in the end, releases all the fairies back to Earth. They got their butts handed to them when Roxy was possessed by Nebula and even the Earth that they were so desperate to conquer was almost obliterated by several of the more powerful Earth fairies in an attempt to stop the Wizards. They can't even all come together for one last fight because Duman ends up dying. And you know who finally kills them off? Bloom. Just like every oth villain before them, they have fallen to the lousy princess of Domino. I think the Ancestrals are even lamer to be honest. They didn't even destroy Domino. Destroy implies that they exploded the planet, imploded it, got rid of it. You know what they did? Freeze it. You know what Bloom's power is? [b]Fire.[/b] Good job. They get to do one huge attack and then they're sent away to Obsidian by Marion and Oritel, where they just lay there as shadows for the rest of their existence until their expelled (essentially beaten) by Bloom and Sky. Even in the second movie, even though they're somewhat more successful in getting close to their goal, they don't end up killing anyone, they don't destroy anything, and get beaten by Bloom [b]once again[/b]. These are supposed to be the dark, powerful, witches who froze Bloom's planet and they get beaten by her twice--even having their cold spell on the the planet reversed revealing...look! No one actually died.

Far as I'm concerned if they hate the show their opinions on it don't really count for much here on a fan club, end of story. But I must say, (as always) you bring up some very good points. You can only expect so much from a kids' show. Winx is most definitely a in a different ball park than any anime.

Yeah, I'll give it a read later--I have to get to work soon so...though I might get called off because it's storming and I work as a lifeguard outside. Basically I'll give it a read if I have time lol. But I appreciate that, shows respect. I will respond to the above though since you've been cool enough so far and seem like you actually want a respectful discussion. As I said on the other poll, a lot of the Trix's under-power comes from poor writing and a biased writer. However when he actually gives them their time to shine they're pretty good. Like in the first season they do this pretty neat thing where they project themselves into Bloom's magical reality test and manage to completely shock the system and shut it down. This was a pretty cool plan as they were able to attack and not get attacked; they were able to physically hurt Bloom but they themselves were just astral projections of themselves. They were also able to summon this being that feeds on nightmares. Each time it created a nightmare for the Winx it played on their fears and grew more powerful. Icy's version of the Dragon Fire was also pretty kickass--with it she single-handedly toppled Red Fountain. Now season 5 and 6 is where I completely agree with you. They totally dumbed the Trix down and that's a damn shame. But they also dumbed all of the villains down in the latest seasons. Don't watch and base you opinions the newer seasons they're just plain bad...even the fans know that. I'm also gonna bring back the author bias. I'm like 99% sure he hates the Trix and deliberately sets them up to fail. For example in season 5 (episode: The Lilo) they were about to win and legit, (along side the Winx) the whole town goes up against them. At this point it's just truly painful to watch. Another good example is when the Trix had all of the Winx and Specialists taken down and then that Avalon dude comes in and saves them all last minute. There was also a bunch of times when it was Icy vs 3 or all 6 of the Winx at once. Basically the numbers are always unfair or there are these ridiculous last minute saves. I don't think it's the Trix being not powerful so much as it is a partial author. This is just another big sparkling example of Ignioi simply not liking his villains and amping up his protagonists to an unfair level. However they didn't obliterate Saprks. They simply froze it over. It was a wasteland and everybody did die. They made an apocalypse and that's badass. However back to poor writing and author bias, all of what they did is now nullified. However the Trix are related to them, in a way the Trix are essentially aiding them re-accomplishing that. Actually I believe that in the original draft (based on the concept art) the Trix and the Ancestral Witches were originally supposed to be one in the same--they were supposed to be the ones to destroy Sparks, but that idea was voided.

lovebaltor ^ I think what I was trying to get across in the article--actually, I don't really know what I was attempting to write here. My argument skills four years ago were less than subpar. Personally, I believe that they are more underrated since, like you said, they've been in the show for 5 seasons and yet, we hardly know anything about them. You would think that since they're such reoccurring villains we would at least know something more than how they're the descendants of the Ancestral Witches. Even within the seasons they're featured, they're usually eclipsed by the villains that came after season 1. We learned more about Valtor, or the Wizards, or Selina, then we ever did of the Trix. I think they're merely treated as mediocre plot devices, which is really a shame, since they were such cool villains in season 1. I also think a lot of fans (on here at least) tend to associate the term "overrated" with something/someone that they dislike. Someone posted a poll on here asking if Icy was "overrated" and a vast majority of people voted 'yes' simply because they didn't like her--which isn't the correct way to use or see the term. Ever since season 2, the Trix have been getting less and less favorable treatment. They've hardly been featured on any of the merchandise that I know of. Mattel only ever made 2 Trix dolls, and they were both Icy, and they were both very similar in design. Jakk's Pacific made a few more, but their line of Dark Sirenix dolls were the only here to be released in the US that featured all three of the sisters. Besides the dolls, I can only think of magazine covers in which they were featured. They don't have any t-shirts (that I know of) or jewelry/accessories, and how marketable a character is, certainly impacts how popular they are. Why do you think there was so much Elsa stuff after [i]Frozen[/i] came out, even though she hardly did anything in the movie? A similar thing can be said within even the fanbase. I hardly know of any stories that portray the sisters in a positive, or more introspective light, as opposed to just being the antagonists again. There's not even a consistent amount of decent looking fan art of them on the internet, which is weird considering they've been on the show for so long--like you said. Overall, this is why I find them to be underrated as characters as a whole. You can disagree, which is fine, but this is just the way I see it.

" Well Iginio isn't exactly famous for creating complex characters,is he?He wants to keep Winx Club as simple as possible,thats why everything is black and white.The Trix aren't the only Winx Club that are 1 dimensional. Lord Darkar is basically the Winx Club version of Disney's Maleficent.A 100% evil creature with no redeeming qualities. Valtor isn't a complex and 3 dimensional villain either.Iginio decided to make it impossible for us to wonder why Valtor is evil by adding the storyline about him being created by the Ancient Witches making it impossible for him to be anything but evil.He is evil with no redeeming qualities just like the Trix and Darkar.Iginio decided to also add the line about Valtor being created by a part of the dragon flame just to make the rivalry between Bloom and Valtor more dramatic and interesting. The only reason why we get more information on the Black Wizards than on the Trix is because their background story about how they captured the Earth fairies was very important to the plot of season 4.Personality wise they are still just like the other villains. Tritannus actually had a reason to be evil but he is still the 1 dimensional 100%evil villain who even turned his mother into a mutant.Iginio urned it into even more black and white by having Nereus as the 100%good brother who even cared about Tritannus after Tritannus tried to kill him. When it comes to Selina it was 100% necessary to give her a background story because in the end she comes back to the good side.If you want to turn you villain into a good guy than it is necessary to have a background story that explains about how they used to be good but than for whatever reason turned evil.Besides,she wasn't the main villain either,she was just a tool in of the real and much more powerful villain Acheron. In Kalshara case it was also necessary to provide a story about how she and her bother came o be half-human and half-animal.She still is 100% evil like the other previous villains while her brother Brafilius is just a comic relief sidekick villain.

I don't see how this proves anything considering that other Winx Club villains don't have merchandise either.You should be glad that Mattel decided to make these 2 Icy dolls.Mattel almost never makes villain dolls because they think that little girls don't like villains.The only Barbie movie villain that has been made into a doll was Raquelle from Barbie Diaries but there are lots of other Barbie movies villains that would make good dolls like Henna(From Mariposa.She is a fairy and the only villain almost equally as beautiful as Barbie),Rowena(12 Dancing Princesses),Lydia(Diamond Castle),Laverna(Fairytopia),Ariana(Island Princess),Philippe(3 Musketeers) and even Wenlock(Magic of Pegasus).I can mention many other villains from different shows that never got made into dolls like the villains from W.I.T.C.H.(even though Nerissa would make a lovely doll),Wedding Peach,Magic Knight Rayearth and as much as I know Queen Beryl was the only Sailor Moon villain that was made into a doll. I am again going back to my previous points.The reason why the Trix don't get any merchandise is because they are villains.Other Winx Club villains also don't get any merchandise,Barbie villains also don't get any merchandise,W.I.T.C.H. villians don't get any merchandise,Angel's Friends villains don't get any merchandise and I can go on and on about how many other villains don't get merchandise.In fact the only villains that get proper merchandise like dolls,t-shirts,accessories,backpacks,pyjamas etc are Disney villains.Truth is that villains are much more unpopular than the heroes and thats why they usually wont get as much merchandise.
