Help with "The Fury"

Ok.. so I'm so confused. I just finished reading the Fury a little while ago ** warning, if you haven't read it, this is a spoiler**

So Elena dies right? I'm so confused as to how and why? Will she be in the next book? Any info you have would be helpful! I'm so confused :P
